Starhill Gallery “Indulge” and “Feast”

April 24, 2006

Starhill Gallery is a very high class six-storey shopping complex that houses only the finest brands. Located in Jalan Bukit Bintang, it can be easily spotted by the glass made entrance. A noteworthy fact about this shopping complex: it’s co-designed by Siang Leng’s aunty.

Indeed this place is a very fine place to shop, if you have the cash to spend. Luxurious clothes and items are abundant for those who can afford them. Anyway, my main interest is the food lounge, which will be the main attraction for a poor man like me(I entered the complex in jeans and slippers yo :P)
Words cannot describe this place, let the photos do the talking..

Top down view of the ground floor from the escalator
“Shook” Thumbs up :P

This is actually the exit to JW Mariott Hotel
Nice lights
“Tarbush” Restaurant, serves camel?
There’s supposed to be water flowing through the hanging cups, but it’s not functioning properly, so it’s temporarily turned off
A Chinese restaurant, lots of ducks hor?

Beautiful hallways

Siang Leng

Looks small ain’t it? It’s actually as big as 2 palms of yours..

Lobsters.. yum

Aquariums displaying various expensive seafood

This restaurant has a cowboy theme
A chef trying hard to crack open an oyster.. all viewable through a wide transparent glass
Starhill Gallery also has the nicest public toilet in Malaysia, go take a look if you happen to be nearby, I assure you it’s worth your time. Last thing I’d like to mention about Starhill is that you are actually not allowed to take photos of the restaurants/hallways. But they do allow you to take photos of your friends. I wonder what difference that makes?

Kepong Dim Sum

“Dim Sum” - in Chinese meaning “a pinch to the heart” is a variety of dumplings and buns that can be either steamed or fried, normally served along with chinese tea. As the name implies, Dim Sum is to be treated as a light snack rather than a full meal.

Kepong Dim Sum

Delicious Char Siu Pao, anyone?

Kepong Dim SumKepong Dim Sum

Plenty of Siu Mais, who doesn’t love Siu Mai??

I have yet found any recommendable Dim Sum in KL, if you have any suggestions please do write a comment after this post. Few days ago I spent 2 hours driving around Sri Petaling and Bukit Jalil trying to find the 24H Dim Sum restaurant Ji Xian mentioned a few years back. After asking 8 different people, which include 3 Malay apartment guards, an Indian newspaper seller, a Chinese restaurant owner and 3 friends through phone calls, we still couldn’t manage to find that damn place. Really ‘da pai’.

In the end gave up finding and ended up eating Char Kueh Teow in Serdang. 1.30 am. Phhhft. -.-

KLCC Signatures Food Court

“Signatures” is one of the two available food courts currently residing in KLCC. Compared to the other food court - “Asian Flavours”, “Signatures” is a class higher(so you can expect the food to be 50 cents - RM1 more expensive) and they serve better food. Besides, you can have a great view of the KLCC park if you are lucky to have the side seats :)

Waiting for my sandwich.. I still remember my experience to this food court I had when I first visited KLCC 5 years ago. I was about to enroll in my FCM Alpha course in MMU Cyberjaya and my whole family came along to tour KL city. We were awed to see this place lol.

Turkey Ham sandwich, yum. “Super Sandwiches”, the sandwich stand that left me with the deepest memory.. I still can recall the feeling of amazement I had when they presented me with the combination of different sandwiches I can have. It has became a regularity that I must visit this sandwich stand everytime I step into this food court, it surely brings back some fond memories.

*Useful tips*
1. Drinks sold here are really expensive, especially those cold ones. Head to McD if you want a soft drink, or the nasi kandar stall for hot drinks.
2. The nasi kandar campur and chicken rice are nice and not really expensive. Rm4.50 a meal here is a steal.

Kepong “Ka Ka” Bak Kut Teh

Every time I visit Kepong I will notice a lot of people eating in this Bak Kut Teh stall, called Ka Ka Bak Kut Teh. Some forumers at Lowyat.net also recommend this stall for nice BKT, so Siang Leng and I decided to try it(although we just had Klang BKT 4 days ago :P)

DSCN2871

Even their herbal drink is named “Jia Jia”

If you aren’t a BKT fan like me, try going to the food court opposite(it’s damn big and bright, you can’t miss it) and check out their Curry Fish Head, it’s marvelous. I had it twice already but both times I didn’t bring along the camera.. will blog more about it if I have the opportunity :)

The place was packed, until the shophouses behind were used to accomodate the customers. See the photos to witness yourself, it was around 7.15 pm that time.

DSCN2867

Shown here is only 40% of the customers that night.. so packed

“Zhu Jiao Chu” - Pork Hind cooked with Vinegar(it’s a dish for pregnant women)

Overall the BKT and “Zhu Jiao Chu” we had were so-so, equally tasty as those found in Dengkil, but the Yau Char Kuai is the best, freshly fried and very crunchy.

DSCN2884

Nice view of the BKT, the Yau Char Kuai is the best
