Went for this movie yesterday with my family and my sister’s boyfriend in Megamall. I think this is only the second time our whole family went for a movie
The author Dan Brown is really amazing in manipulating the facts and they actually make sense! The facts are presented to you to make you believe what you are reading.
There are 3 main groups of people in The Da Vinci Code that I feel you need to know before watching it. The Vatican, Priory of Sion and Opus Dei. If only I knew who they were it would greatly increased my viewing pleasure. Blur blur halfway because I don’t know them -.-
Just a brief intro, the Vatican would be the Church led by the Pope. Priory of Sion is a mysterious society that keeps the secret of Jesus’ identity, and the whereabouts of the Holy Grail. The Priory of Sion is led by a Grandmaster, along with 3 students known as Master. Lastly, Opus Dei is a secret sect within the Church that wants to uphold the belief that Jesus is god.
How do the 3 entities get in the picture? Actually Opus Dei has been trying to search and eliminate all Masters of the Priory of Sion for the last 2000 years to ensure the secret is kept forever. If the secret is leaked, it would rock the foundation of the Church and millions of faith will be lost. Anyway I am not a Christian and I know nothing much about Christianity. So, my explanation may not be very accurate, better google up or refer to Wikipedia for better understanding
After watching this movie it did sparked my interest in wanting to know more about Christianity’s history. It does a good job in convincing you that we have been fed a lie for over 2000 years. But in the end this book is still fictional. IMO the benefit of watching this movie is that it made you think and re-evaluate your faith. I never regarded anyone as a villain in The Da Vinci Code. They are just those who believe, and those who do not.
My favorite part of the movie would be when Ian McKellen(the old man who acted as Gandalf) explained ^ means men, while v meant women. ^ is used to denote military rankings nowadays, so the more penises you have, the more power you have
If you did not read the book, go watch it. It will get you going for the book. Moreover, there are some scenes in this movie which you will misunderstand if you do not read the book later on. One example would be
*spoiler alert*
When Leigh Teabing passed a drink to Remy and he died soon after after drinking it, you will think that he was poisoned. But in the book, Remy has allergy to peanuts, so strong that it would kill him.
