Malaysia Food Blog, Malaysia Travel Blog

BM Kia says..
As I read through my blog posts for 2008, I found most of them are restaurant related reviews. I think this is deviating from my original purpose of food blogging, which is to discover and promote local foods, especially hawker fares. If not, it wouldn't be fit to be called "Malaysia Food Blog" So, my main aim of blogging for year 2009 would be to continue to do what I actually enjoyed the most - to travel, discover and promote cheap and tasty food.

Ais Kacang @ Kek Seng Coffee Shop

Posted by: vkeong In: Ais Kacang| Food and Drink| Penang () (23 views)

Ais Kacang

Got to know Kek Seng from my parents, the food in this coffee shop was OK. What is worth highlighting is its Ais Kacang , look at picture. It has 2 scoops of ice cream and a piece of 2-layer jelly, which tasted a little salty.

Kek Seng Ais Kacang

After this visit, I have tasted 3 of the many famous Ais Kacang in Penang. I’d rate them as (personal preference)

  1. Swatow Lane
  2. Lorong Selamat
  3. Kek Seng

This coffee shop is located along Penang Road, only 5-10 minutes walk from Komtar but the tricky part is finding a parking. Before reaching Penang Road, you will see a junction which leads to Lebuh Tek Soon, take the path and you fill find a lot of parking options.

They do have this special durian ice-cream which I think they do make themselves.. I think so because the poster promoting it was hand-drawn.. Another thing worth mentioning is that this coffee shop has been visited by a Singaporean TV station’s food programme, and given thumbs up

I also got to know Kek Seng from my father. Used to go there when i was younger. But the last time i went there was many years ago, and the place didn’t look very clean and tidy. Anyway, your pictures make me wanna go back and try. I could hardly remember the taste anymore.
Since I’m not from the island, one of the best Ice-kacang on the mainland that I’ve tried is in Nibong Tebal. People call that place “kong ci”. It comes in a big bowl, also with ice-cream, and lots of “liao” inside. and what i like most is, i can ask that uncle to give me extra groundnuts!

Where is Kek Seng? I’ve left BM long time ago, not sure the Ice Kacang stall under the big tree along Jalan Kulim, near the old Lai Kee restaurant (opposite Kim Sen Primary School) still selling the ice kacang? I love the ice kacang there. hmm.. Yummy!!!

BM cha bor - Kek Seng is located in Penang Road, opposite Komtar. And the stall you mentioned, I just went there a few weeks ago and it’s still thronged with customers. And the quality is still being maintained :D
