Von Thai Cafe

Posted by: vkeong In: Food and Drink| Penang| Restaurant ()

Von Thai Cafe is a Thai food restaurant in Relau. My colleagues brought me here few weeks ago for lunch. Von Thai is a corner shop located opposite PISA (Penang International Sports Arena) a block away from Public Bank. They serve set lunch only @ RM8.80 per set. Set lunches are available ranging from Set Lunch A to M (IIRC), each with different combination of Thai dishes. For this post, Set O was ordered. FYI all sets come with 3 dishes and rice.

Every set lunch comes with a glass of Tiger Beer, either warm or chilled. LOL just kidding, these are Chinese tea :P

What would Thai food be without Tomyam? This small bowl of Tomyam soup contained 2 medium sized prawns and meatballs. The sourness and spiciness of the soup were just nice, making it really tasty. Drinking it really opened our appetite

Mixed vegetables.

Pud Pet Chicken (Curry) This dish tasted like Kapitan Chicken.. but spicier.

I really like the Thai Omelette, it carries a very fragrant smell. I am pretty sure the green thin slices in the omelette are the reason behind it.. not sure what are they though.

Because I was sharing the lunch set with Siang Leng, we ordered an extra side dish, Belacan Chicken @ RM1.70 per piece.

Dessert is also included, a small serving of coconut milk with red jellies. Dishes available in other sets include Pandan Chicken (chunk of chicken meat grilled in pandan leaves), Kerabu (sweet spicy mango salad), Fried Fish with Kerabu, Green Curry Chicken and Thai Deep Fried Kangkung. Von Thai Cafe is recommended because of the good food and reasonable pricing, I felt like I was paying less for more eating here lol.
