Hawker Food @ Sungai Nibong

October 16, 2006

Ahh.. finally an update lol. This time I will post up the food we had for dinner after the team building event in Gua Tempurung, Perak. The place we went to is located in Sungai Nibong, along the way to USM/N-Park. If you are coming from Butterworth, take head to the big roundabout near Krystal Point and take the 1 o’clock exit. Continue about 150m down the road and you will see a Shell on your left. The foodcourt is just behind the petrol station.

I used to come here a few years ago when my sister was still studying in USM. We would have our dinner here every Sunday night before dropping off my sister in the campus. The variety of food to choose from is vast, ranging from at least 15-20 stalls. The foodcourt usually starts to get crowded after 6pm, with most of the customers USM students and Bayan Lepas workers.

My choice that night, Char Koay Kak. It tasted a bit bland and didn’t have much ingredients. I can recommend a nice stall in Taman Sri Rambai’s night hawker fare that sells really good Char Koay Kak, with prawns. Since I have had better.. Rating: OK.

How can a plate of Char Koay Kak alone satisfy me? :P So I ordered satay for everyone. Rating: OK.

Siang Leng had Hokkien Char, which is also known as Fuk Kin Mien in Kuala Lumpur. Our Fuk Kin Mien here referes to their Prawn Mee though lol. Rating: Good.

The Claypot Chicken Rice. If the rice was cooked more evenly (a lot of white rice were seen) and had Chinese sausages, it’d definitely be nicer. Rating: OK.

Laksa. According to my friend, it’s nice. I didn’t taste it but I believe him la. Rating: Good.

Jiu Hu Eng Cai is a dish of sliced cuttlefish and kangkung topped with rojak sauce and peanuts. It has been ages since I had this, liked it a lot. Rating: Good.

Loh Bak, which is a variety of fried pork rolls, sausages and century eggs to be eaten with special gluey sauce as well as chilli sauce. Rating: Good.

There are more food we had. But because everyone was hungry, I didn’t want to kacau them by taking photos of their food lol. Also recommened are pancake, curry mee and Sabah pan mee.

Kok Thai Restaurant @ Kinta City

October 10, 2006

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

On my last week working in NCS I was fortunate enough to join my first and also last team building event in Gua Tempurung, Perak. I will post up some photos of the caves if possible later. Kok Thai restaurant in Kinta City was the place where we had our lunch.

The restaurant is quite classy and had a big shark fin displayed at the counter. There were many people having lunch, even at 2pm.

First dish to arrive was White Carrot Soup. Nothing much to comment on this.. just drink only lol.

Then came the shocker, a HUGE plate of Pai Kuat Wong. The pork ribs were stacked like a small hill.. so much that the 9 of us cannot finish the dish. I liked the dish a lot because they really used pork ribs (as the name implies) instead of pork.

Hou Si Fatt Choy had sea cucumber, mushroom, oysters and fatt choy cooked in a claypot. This should be a quite expensive dish because of the ingredients
used.. tastes great too.

The fried fish was covered with sweet, sour and spicy sauce. It reminded me of a Malay dish, called Ikan Tiga Rasa which I used to have back in my University days.

The prawns were fresh and good but I liked the deep fried butter strands more, they tasted very sweet!

Bleh food with bleh photo. This is chicken cooked with a LOT of ginger.. hated it, yucks. I think it was left pretty much untouched as soon as everyone had a taste of it lol.

Dessert - Longan syrup, it was very diluted.. eh waitress you added too much water :P

Another dessert - Kaya Puffs. They were still warm and crunchy so they should be freshly made. Good stuff, too bad I can only have a piece.

I have been to many makan places that can fit in 5-6 posts. Anyway this morning I was involved in a minor accident, I was the victim :( My poor car which was just sent for re-spraying last week has a few scratches now, sigh.

JGS Penang

October 4, 2006

JGS (Jabil Global Services) is where I am working now. Only complaint I have is the canteen.. very bad lah. Two days ago I underwent the HR Orientation Program with a bunch of Indonesian operators lol. The whole process was in Malay OMG. I kinda pity them for having to come here to work.. their basic salary is only RM450.. Although it can add up RM600-700 if include OT and allowance, BUT! it still is very little.. Makes me feel whether I should be satisfied and happy with what I am having now..
