Malaysia Food Blog, Malaysia Travel Blog

BM Kia says..
As I read through my blog posts for 2008, I found most of them are restaurant related reviews. I think this is deviating from my original purpose of food blogging, which is to discover and promote local foods, especially hawker fares. If not, it wouldn't be fit to be called "Malaysia Food Blog" So, my main aim of blogging for year 2009 would be to continue to do what I actually enjoyed the most - to travel, discover and promote cheap and tasty food.

Dinner @ Ristorante Bella Italia

Last Thursday was my department dinner. It was held at an Italian restaurant in Pulau Tikus‘ commercial area (Belissa Row, Jalan Burma) named Ristorante Bella Italia. At first I didn’t really liked the idea of having dinner there.. but I changed my mind after that :P *Photos courtesy of Foong Peng (I didn’t bring my cam)

There were 14 of us and we occupied like half of the restaurant lol. One of the appetizers offered is Fritto Di Calamari - deep fried squid ring served with tartare sauce @ RM15.00. We ordered 2 plates of this, it served as a great start.

This was my order that night, Bisueca Di Manzo Alla Boscaiola - grilled beef tenderloin steak with mushrooms @ RM42.00. It tasted OK only, and the meat wasn’t really as done as I wanted it to be. The grilled eggplants were bitter.. didn’t like them at all.

Spagehetti Alla Bella Italia - spaghetti with prawns, clams and asparagus in white garlic sauce @ RM25.00. I don’t know how it tasted but it sure looked good to me! I like the way the ingredients are arranged for presentation.

Agnello Alla Cacciatora Con Funghi - lamb shanks braised with mushroom @ RM32.00. I think this dish is worth your money the most.. the proportion is just huge! If you are wondering, shank is the part between the knee and ankle (according to the dictionary)

Trancie Di Tonno Alla Peperonata - pan-fried tuna steak served with flavourful tomato sauce and roasted capsicums @ RM32.50. This dish tasted good, and that’s coming from me who despises tuna now (I used to love it but not after a really bad experience early this year)

Our dessert, Tiramisu @ RM11.50. In Italian, this is called Mascarpone Cheese. It is basically a sponge cake layered with coffee (and chocolate too?) Funny though, I only felt the soft cheese part that melts almost instantly in the mouth

Shown here are merely a quarter of the dishes we ordered throughout the night. Other dishes we had include clam soup, various pizzas, tomato soup, mix seafood plate and baked chicken with black olives. A pity I didn’t bring my camera along.. it’s not often I get to eat good Italian food. Our bill came to a close RM800, RM900 if you take into account the service charges and tax. And yeah, I was stunned to know that lol.

Ok, again, don’t know why I don’t feel want to dine in the 2nd time for this restaurant. Just feel like the taste not so much ‘italiano’.

The one at upper penang road is better, you should really go there to try out. Hmm.. let me think, ok the chicken condoe blue/ zheesy chicken is not bad, lot of people love the tiramisu there, which I rate as 6.5/10 marks.
