This is an old post, I decided to republish it because of some photo issues. I believe those of you who studied/worked in Kuala Lumpur/Selangor area have seen the restaurant. Its full name is Chili’s Grill & Bar Family Restaurant. From my observation it’s always packed during evening and there are always people queuing for seats, especially in the weekends. Reason is this is a nice place to hangout after a hard day at work, lucky for those who work in Midvalley eh? They can spend every Friday evening here.. but then you gotta have that kind of money to spend.
The interior of the restaurant is lightly dimmed with orange lights, creating a soothing feeling, as though to cure heal your body, mind and soul after a long week. There are small televisions placed strategically in every corner of the restaurant providing sports entertainment.
What’s Chillis called without chilli?
Some of the drinks here are labelled with “Bottomless” in front of their names, like “Bottomless Apple Juice”. This type of drink entitles the drinker to have unlimited refills. A good choice if you plan to stay around for a long time. When we tried to order a cup only, we were told they cannot refill it if we intended to share the drink lol. So we ordered “Southwest Sling” @ RM7.95 instead, the ultimate milkshake that is made of chilled pineapple juice, orange juice and vanilla ice cream.
The restaurant is divided into areas in which each is served by a specific roster of waiters. Chilis serves mainly steaks and burgers. In norm, meals are served orderly: appetizer, main course and dessert. Triple play(3P, not the other “3P” ok :P) is an appetizer consisting buffalo wings, fried chicken and egg rolls.
The egg rolls are the best, buffalo wings is a bit spicy(prefer road side BBQ chicken wings more) while the fried chicken tastes like KFC OR chicken… There are three different types of mayonaisse for you to dip. Not sure which is for which but they all taste about the same anyway.
The main course we had was Chicken + Beef steak, Cajun style. Cajun style means its spicy. The steak wasn’t great, I have had better in F1 LOL.. the specialty of this steak is that they provide you with a 4 slices of roti prata(?) and some fillings(not sure what they were) I wasn’t sure of the correct way of eating, so the natural thing to do was to make sandwiches out of it. Tastes good for the first few bites but it tends to get old pretty soon.
Lastly was our dessert, the nicest we had for the whole night. Ironically, we also enjoyed the dessert the most when we went to TGI Friday. The dessert is actually a piece of chocolate cake topped with ice cream and nuts. Heavenly
Our bill came to RM80+.
Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie - absolutely delicious.
0P now lol, we were stuffed after the meal. By the way, I heard Chili’s going to open up a branch in Penang? That’s good news indeed!

i was at Chili's in G Hotel Penang this evening.
Olivia Soon | February 22, 2008 | 9:46 pmi was at Chili’s in G Hotel Penang this evening. There was 9 of us joining for dinner. Three was at Chili’s first and the restaurant was not full. They were asked to wait to be seated. They waited. Then when they were shown a table, my friend informed them that she would need a table for nine as there will be nine of us. The waitress / waiter refused to set up the tables to nine as she insist that all the nine of us are to be in front of her before she can arrange the table set up. Then three more of us arrived, the waitress at Chili’s then arrange a table for six as she can only see six ppl in front of her. Then when i arrived, the table was still not set up and the six of my friends was still not seated. Is this the kind of service we Penangites welcomes ? For heaven’s sake, we do not need fast food outlets like Chili’s with its snobbish attitude here in Penang. They can pack up their outlet out of Penang. Here in Penang, restaurants only strive to serve better to be treated like dirt.
secondly, i do realise that Chili's Penang provides extra service
Olivia Soon | February 22, 2008 | 9:52 pmsecondly, i do realise that Chili’s Penang provides extra service and care to those foreigners an expats working in Penang. Its funny how they see things as these foreigners are treated like kings and was immediately given tables. but we Penangnite are being asked to stand and wait for a table. honestly, we Penangnites do NOT NEED restaurants like Chili’s here in Penang. For your information, this is not the first time i’ve been to Chili’s and being treated like this. I’m a Manager at an International Company in Spain and hav travelled around and am very suprised to see such service in my home town. ALL Penangnites should boycott Chili’s.
