Excellent Thai Food @ May Tip Restaurant

December 14, 2006

The last post about Thai food in Siam Express was bad, so I am going to talk about a good one. May Tip Restaurant in Taman Mutiara, Bukit Mertajam 大山脚 serves excellent Thai food. The last time I dined here was 3 months ago on my brother’s birthday. We treated him for lunch.

Seafood tomyam is the must-order-dish, else you won’t feel like eating Thai food ;) Quite many fresh prawns were used so the soup tasted really nice.

A plate of really kick-ass Pineapple Fried Rice (this is what I call a real Pineapple Fried Rice, shame on you Siam Express..) Look at the chunks of pineapples and amount of cashewnuts  Also used as topping is pork floss that gave a hint of sweet, saltish taste.

Can you guess what is this dish? It’s otak-otak, Thai style. Local otak-otak is steamed with banana leaves but this was steamed in wrapped aluminium foil. They taste quite similar, but this had chunkier fish meat and prawns. It looked like a blooming flower lol, nice la..

When the Thai Omelette arrived, I didn’t expect it to look like this. However it still tasted great, especially with the special chilli sauce. The green stuff you see in the omelette are actually kangkung. After being deep fried they became very crunchy, felt like eating keropok.

Next to come was Asam Prawns. Man, those are some really big prawns.. The downside of this dish is the price, it costed RM20++ if I remembered correctly.

Lastly, Thai fried bean sprouts. If you look hard, you will notice that all bean sprouts’ roots have been removed. May Tip really deserves my praise for such courtesy. Our meal costed RM98++ inclusive of 5 drinks, all iced lemon tea. It is a bit expensive but you get what you paid for, good food. I rather spend a bit more on good food, than wasting a cent on lousy food with bad service. Do you agree? ;)

Bon appetite!

You seem to like Thai food a lot. I love Thai food as well. Any recommendations for Thai Restaurants on Penang Island?

truebluepenangite - Nah, I don’t especially like Thai food, just been to a lot Thai food restaurant lol. What I really love is Dim Sum! :P On Penang Island there’s a seafood tomyam restaurant around Sungai Ara/Relau. It’s called Cherry Blossom, quite popular among working people there. Von Thai opposite PISA is also quite good for lunch.

Vonthai’s tom yam is HOT, i LOVE IT! For me, not really like cheryblossom, I do prefer the LaemThong which located jsut opposite BJ complx (same row with tutti Frutti). Their Otak otak in coconut shell, heavenlyyyy. Well it does expensive than Vonthai but overally, very yummy!

May tip is expensive but the food is good i would have to agree. My parents love this restaurant. But one bad thing is they dont breakdown the bill to show the charges for each dish. They lump the total in one sum and charge you that price. Not very honest i reckon!!!!

The food was so so only… servings are small and very expensive! If u like thai food, i recommend Kun Thai 坤泰 thai restorant, near raja uda, the price are reasonable and the food are excellent:)!

For good thai food, should go to Asian Terrace Restaurant at Solaris Mont Kiara….you cant find such authentic food in KL anymore. Tri it….no regrets.
