Siam Express @ Queensbay

December 10, 2006

If there is a list of restaurants doomed to fail because of bad management and service, Siam Express will definitely be on it.

As seen from this, Siam Express has an outlet each in Gurney Plaza and Queensbay. Also, I notice that most Thai food restaurants like to use black as the theme. Just Thai in 1-Utama would be an example. In Siam Express, all waiters dress in black and food is served in black plates. Heck, even the environment is dark.

I ordered a plate of Seafood Tomyam Fried Rice Wrapped in Omelette because it sounded nice. But what arrived later was a real disappointment, look at its portion! And that pathetically thin layer of omelette! Taste wise it was quite good, but the price RM12.90 for something like this is unjustified.

Pineapple Fried Rice @ RM12.90 tasted bland. And pineapples were given in tiny bits, not chunks. Compared to Just Thai’s version of pineapple fried rice, this one loses by miles.

During the meal, we requested for belacan from a young waitress for the bland Pineapple Fried Rice. She totally forgot about it like 2 minutes later and we had to call for another waiter. This time, it took him 5 minutes to search for a saucer plate and fill it with belacan. And they still dared to charge us 10% for the lousy service. What service? Worse still, we saw a couple being shouted at by one of the elderly worker. She instructed them to pay at the counter instead of bringing them the bill. So, please avoid this Thai food restaurant altogether if you are in Queensbay. Until they change their staff’s attitude, I don’t see any reason to patronize Siam Express at all.

    Hi Vkeong,

I just went to Queensbay this morning and thought of entering the Siam Express Cafe. Luckily I didn’t :)

Thanks for telling us about this. Now i will avoid Siam Express. Have you tried the Manhattan Fish Shop? Well, the service sucks and the food is cold. I ordered the platter… and the squids are cold plus the fries are soggy (soaked up the oil from the other fried stuff on the platter). GUESS what, i had the platter twice and it’s the same…. COLD food. Give me Fish & Co. anytime BUT not the Manhattan Fish shop. BUT who knows the other stuff is good… i don’t think i want to risk it.
Hey, if u like cakes. Try Bakerzin… expensive but the cakes are exquisite. I had tiramisu and strawberry shortcake. Tiramisu has wine in it. ;)

Lisa - Yeah I tried Manhattan Fish Market before in Alamanda Putrajaya early this year. I had the same experiece as your, I had my food served cold, and there wasn’t any customer around! It got me wondering if they pre-prepared their food..

I don’t think they pre-prepared their stuff as we always waited sooooo long for the food to come. :(
Had Johnny’s today. I have the set which cost $8 ; comes with tea, tomyum soup plus a dessert. Thai Chicken Rice… i always had that when i am in KL.
New Zealand Ice cream… i say, i still prefer Hagan Dazs anytime. :P

hm i prefer new zealands natural tho…: P hehe…oh pastasia and siam express is same branch wan ar? lolz….no wonder they both are the same. Bad Service, not so great food and small portion. Plz, avoid pastasia in gurney as well. Dun understand why there’s a lot of ppl…maybe weekends….but the long queue at Manhattan Fish Market is a mystery….Lucky me, they didn’t serve me and my friend cold food and it came pretty quick but its really sucky when the manager told us to come back after 1/2 hour because they had to clear the tables and the chefs have to prepare the sauces and stuff. After 1/2 they’re still not ready. Fine. In the end went back there and managed to enter the restaurant. When food was served, we were disappointed. The so called callamari couldn’t even get my tiny finger through it! Gosh….Plus, they are damn greasy.

No matter wat, i think food in Prangin mall taste the best among the other malls. Same outlet but they are just diff. Seriously!

Heya, even the same oatmeal and raisin cookie in starbucks can be priced differently. All other outlets are selling at RM3.50 but QB’s RM3.70. And they taste diff as well. Less milk and butter.

    : P

Jian - LOL, we have so much similar experiences with Manhattan Fish Market. By the way do you know that Pastasia is going to open in QB? I just knew it this morning when I was there. They are still setting up the restaurant. OMG.. as if Siam Express alone is not enough :x

your comment is rude about a restaurant who provides really good food, maybe you should stick to hawker centers, and avoid talking about things you don’t know ! (I’m a chef myself)

jcq - I am not sure your comment is directed at who and which restaurant you meant that provides good food. Care to explain more?

i hv tried…food in siam express and the food is not really that good..and the services just so so..not really memorable..to me and my husband..if not mistaken pastasia gurney is under the same management and it is worthwhile to give 10% service charge as the service given by the young waitress was good.As i try pastasia food so many times the most delicious i can recommend are fettuccine carbonara, pizza pastasia…while the dessert are super yummy such as tiramisu and chocolate panna cotta…the enviroment also very cozzy and comfortable suitable for me and my family…anyhow there is just only 1 unsatisfactory about the calzone which the filling was just a little…..
