Xie Hong Bak Kut Teh

According to my colleagues, Xie Hong restaurant serves the best bak kut teh in Bukit Mertajam 大山脚. So much for claiming myself as a BM kia, only to know this restaurant after 23 years staying in BM.. Anyway yesterday I just had to try how good the bak kut teh is, for their constant praises for this restaurant.
The restaurant sells economy rice in the noon and bak kut teh in the evenings. You won’t know there’s bak kut teh available here because there’s no sign at all. And from the outside it looks just like a normal coffee shop. I ordered one person’s serving with extra pork meat balls @ RM5.50. Too bad they didn’t have yew char koay that evening.
The thick soup packed a strong herbal taste and that’s the way I like it. Xie Hong is very generous with the meat, that a person’s serving is enough for 2. Beneath the chunks of 3-layer pork are 2 pieces of meaty, tender and juicy pork ribs. Oh my even the thought of it is making me crave for more now.
Indeed, Xie Hong serves the best bak kut teh I’ve had so far in Bukit Mertajam.. but I still have a few more to try before making the final verdict. Value wise, this is definitely the one to go for. It is located behind BM’s market, along the road with the famous Malay char koay teow. Refer to the map I doodled for a better idea.
