Lang Tengah Trip Part II : The beach

This is how [tag]Lang Tengah[/tag] [tag]Island[/tag] looks like in the morning. This photo was taken on our last day of the trip. The sun was rising from the jungle behind the resort and I like how the sunlight started to shine on the island.

These are photos taken on the left side stretch of the beach, there are a lot of dead corals washed up here. So walking on the beach here is really painful if you don’t have your sandals on.. I hurt my toe when I stepped on a sharp one, ouch. Anyway it’s prohibited to collect them, even though they are dead. Contrary to the Marine Park in Pulau Pinang (don’t be confused, there’s really an island here with this name, not the Penang island I am from), you won’t find any dead corals there.

One of the activities here is jungle trekking. The journey takes only around 30 minutes but it’s tough. The reward is the amazing sea view..

The view here is just magnificent, and you can’t help but feel excited when the waves smash the rocks. Too bad we couldn’t stay too long because it was near evening and we had to get moving.

Lastly, the breathtaking sunset.. Nice right? :)

Lang Tengah Trip Part I : Getting There

I know I said I would be going for a [tag]Redang[/tag] trip, but the trip wasn’t really to Redang lol. My trip was to the island between Redang Island and Pulau Perhentian, [tag]Lang Tengah[/tag] Island. I didn’t know about this until the day before, ouch. Anyway I reached Kuala [tag]Terengganu[/tag] at 5am after a painful 8 hours journey on bus. And 10am only I boarded the boat to Lang Tengah Island.

The boat ride to Lang Tengah was damn challenging. I really salute you if you manage to reach the destination without feeling sea sick at all. Langkawi’s ferry ride is peanuts compared to this.. After all, the South China Sea’s wave is much stronger than Malacca Straits’. A guy even threw up in the boat. Eww.. luckily his ‘stuff’ didn’t stain our bags lol.

During my trip, I stayed in the one and only resort in Lang Tengah [tag]Island[/tag], the [tag]Redang Lang Resort[/tag].

Crystal clear sea water, scorching sun and white sandy beach.. That’s the three elements that make up Lang Tengah Island.

Xie Hong Bak Kut Teh

According to my colleagues, Xie Hong restaurant serves the best bak kut teh in [tag]Bukit Mertajam[/tag] 大山脚. So much for claiming myself as a BM kia, only to know this restaurant after 23 years staying in BM.. Anyway yesterday I just had to try how good the bak kut teh is, for their constant praises for this restaurant.

The restaurant sells economy rice in the noon and bak kut teh in the evenings. You won’t know there’s bak kut teh available here because there’s no sign at all. And from the outside it looks just like a normal coffee shop. I ordered one person’s serving with extra pork meat balls @ RM5.50. Too bad they didn’t have yew char koay that evening.

The thick soup packed a strong herbal taste and that’s the way I like it. Xie Hong is very generous with the meat, that a person’s serving is enough for 2. Beneath the chunks of 3-layer pork are 2 pieces of meaty, tender and juicy pork ribs. Oh my even the thought of it is making me crave for more now.

Indeed, Xie Hong serves the best [tag]bak kut teh[/tag] I’ve had so far in Bukit Mertajam.. but I still have a few more to try before making the final verdict. Value wise, this is definitely the one to go for. It is located behind BM’s market, along the road with the famous Malay char koay teow. Refer to the map I doodled for a better idea.
