Almond Tea @ Kimberly Street

October 14, 2007

Almond-Tea

Anyone likes almond tea? Heng jin teh? Heng jin is almond in Hokkien, and people usually eat it with yiu char koay. According to online and newspaper resources, there are 2 stalls in Penang that are famous for this drink. The owners are brothers who sell tong sui in push-stalls. The one I went to was at Kimberly Street.

I love almond cookies so I thought almond tea should be as nice. Turns out that almond tea tastes very awful (for me) because of its very strong medicine smell, like cough mixture. I only managed a few spoonful, then I gave up. For some, it even smells like cockroach lol. Anyway I just tried this out of curiosity because it is said to be a common drink in Penang. Honestly I have never seen anyone selling this drink in Bukit Mertajam.. maybe it’s an island thing.

Chulia Street Curry Mee

October 11, 2007

A buddy of mine recently recommended me to try a famous curry mee in Chulia Street (Lebuh Chulia) Being born and raised in the mainland side of Penang - Bukit Mertajam town, I always have difficulties navigating in Georgetown. The many number of streets and lanes, each with their very own unique names are confusing for me. It took a while for me to find this curry mee stall, I even had to ask a couple of people for directions. Any BM-kia here faces the same problem like me?

Cat Statues of Kuching

October 8, 2007

Kuching is also called ‘Cats City‘ or ‘City of Cats‘ for nothing. The cat statues not only gives a unique feel to the city, they are also nice photography subjects. This white cat is the Kuching South City Council Cat Statue, it was built in the 90s and is the first ever cat statue in Kuching. For me, it is the nicest and friendliest looking of all. It sits in front of the Little China Town along Jalan Padungan and looks like it is welcoming visitors with its waving hand lol.
