Ingolf’s Kneipe German Bar and Restaurant

One of the nicest thing working in Jabil is getting the quarterly profit sharing. Every quarter all the employees would get a share of the company’s profit based on the performance in the past 6 months. The last quarter was the highest percentage of all time, and it’d be a very tough record to break. So I treated my family a lunch in Ingolf’s Kneipe German Restaurant and Bar.

Ingolf-Kneipe-Bar

Kneipe means bar in German, it is well known for its nice, big portioned and reasonably priced German cuisine.

New-Zealand-Lamb-Chop

Since we went in the afternoon, only lunch menu is served. Still, they have quite a wide selection of food to choose from. Their special lunch set would be lamb shank at RM23 something.. I ordered a Duo New Zealand Lamb Chop with mint sauce. It was OK only, maybe because I didn’t like the mint taste.. and the meal was kinda dry because there was no gravy, I had to steal Siang Leng’s :P Anyway that day earlier I already decided I must have lamb for the lunch, so my choice would be either lamb shank or lamb chop only. Now think back I should have ordered the lamb shank lol.

Minced-Pork

Siang Leng’s order, German minced pork served with salad and mashed potato. The gravy is super nice and went soooo well with my lamb chop.. I can still remember her first reaction after tasting it.. “Wah, so nice laaaaaah!”

German-Pork-Sausage

My mom ordered German pork sausage, which is also served along with mashed potato and salad. The sausage is almost thrice the normal thickness of a normal sausage, and tasted superb. The meat is very tender unlike normal hotdogs which are soft. This is a must try if in Ingolf’s Kneipe, it costs only less than RM12.

Chicken

My brother and father ordered the same dish, chicken (with mushroom sauce?) but different parts. You can choose either chicken breast or drumstick, but give me drumstick anytime!

Dark-Chocolate-Mousse

For dessert we had Julian’s dark chocolate mousse. Don’t mistake it is like ice-cream because it is not cold at all and had creamy butter like texture. If you love chocolate you’d definitely love this one :) Ingolf’s Kneipe is located at Tanjung Bungah, right opposite Conthorpe Orchid Hotel Penang Chinese Swimming Club. There is a winding road leading to the restaurant on your left just after the petrol station along the way to Batu Ferringhi.

Table

With all the food we ordered, the bill was only around RM76, and everyone gets a free glass of iced lemon tea. I highly recommend this restaurant for Western food with some German touch. Besides the environment here is relaxed and cozy, the perfect place to wind down and have dinner after work. Prior reservation is advised.

[sigh] when I see you and Celine blog about this place. I feel so kek sim… the last time I went they shut me away as they are closing off from lunch… [sigh] But am happy that you blog about it… so that I know what to order next time.

  2. yni

Just wondering..i heard they say the staff there are rude..But they will treat u super nice if u are ang moh..is it true?

  3. vkeong

yni – I think all restaurants will treat ang moh better, won’t you if you own one? :P But they weren’t rude to us when we went there.. The service was normal, nothing out of the ordinary. They were very very busy due to the number of guests though

  4. yni

erm, a few friends and i want to go there for dinner this weekend, my friend tried to call to make a booking. before she can give her name and phone number, the waiter just cut her off. she had to call back to leave her name and number. so we wonder should we still go for dinner this weekend..

    vkeong,
actually, i treat ang moh worse. i love my fellow malaysian! =) anyway, thanks for the gorgeous photos

  5. vkeong

xweing, lol I can’t really agree with your statement, it’d be shooting my own foot. Penang drivers are a terror though

yni, Maybe it’s just one particular staff.. I called to ask their restaurant location before I went too.. They were quite helpful, giving me the full directions

  6. yni

i hope so..will pray hard the waiters will treat us well, so my trip to penang all the way from melaka, will not be a bad experience.. ^_^

  7. vkeong

yni, why pray? It is their duty to serve customers well. If you are not happy with their services, voice up your dissatisfactions. I went to a rather famous restaurant once and had their mix grill that cost RM35++. The lamb stinks and spoiled the whole dish. When I complained to the waiters they only offer to reduce 20%, but when I brought the matter to the manager, he apologized and offered not to charge the mix grill on the bill.

It may be due to he thought I am a reporter or something (coz I carry a big camera everywhere I go) so he acted like that. But the main point is that you must use your right as a consumer well ;) If you do not let the management know their staff is rude, they won’t improve :)

Hei there, i think the right way to make a complain if you really think it’s not fair is simply just ask the waiter to call his/her manager. Then from there proceed with your complain and if still not satisfied with the feedback they are giving, then probably ask who is the next highest or maybe the owner of the place. If this is not effective, then go to the Consumer Association and place a complaint(or be a little childish and write a whole BLOG about it)

    :-)
    Cheers ppl!

Your blog is great! Keep it up! Talking about German cuisine, there is one in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur. The food is really good and reasonably priced. The restaurant name is STADT GERMAN CUISINE & BISTRO, located backend of HSBC Bank, behind Carrefour (Kepong). Try the food and let us know your view.

  12. Ashok

    vkeong,

I agreed with you about the food in ingolf’s. There is another eatery called bistro @ Hardwicke in Penang. It’s located between Northam Tower at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah. It’s a bungalow style bistro. Cozy and friendly staff. No matter you are local or ang moh, they treat you equally. Don’t get cheated by the interior design because previously they are fine dining and now they changed the concept into bistro dining. Price are very reasonable. Apart from the menu, they even have set lunch & dinner that changes every week. Give it a try and let us know your view. I love that place very much.

    Hey Vkeong,

i went there with my family for dinner a week after mother’s day. Their staff are really RUDE in service, asked for order sounds worst then hawsker uncle, serve drink with “flying (throwing) coaster”. And the don’t know what they are serving….geeessss. probably the dinner shift worker are truly bad attitude. i and my husband cant stand the way they served. at the end we didnt voice out, because we were celebrating our mother’s day dinner, they already spoiled our mood.

anyway, we are abit dissapointed beacuse they aint fully cater german cuisine, and the menu served less then half german food. a german restaurant wihout focused on their cuisine? sounds funny. Pork knucle? only available on wednesday…german sausages? took stock from dealer…they have no specialty…..cannot tahan.

wont go there again event the only german restaurant in penang. (as i know)

Is there any good german food in penang? pls tell meeeeee……pls

vk: Sorry I don’t know :( their service so bad already? I heard some people getting good service, and some getting bad service.. i think depends on the occasion.. let’s see if i can forward this complaint to them.. they must know about the staff’s bad attitude!

  14. Ling

    VK,

GOSH!! why do they close for LUNCH!! Plzzzzz Open!
I was a regular when they opened for lunch last year, went there about 3-4 times a week, food was gorgeous and very reasonable & no complains on the service so far. didn’t recall they ever serve lambshank during lunch as it was only specifly on dinnertime..hmmmm. .
Was there on Mother’s Day dinner,I wld say the staffs were rather efficient that nite. The only thing i wld complain is that the portion is way to big for me. The main dish took awhile to come but it was understandable as the restaurant was packed. Other than that everything turned up pretty good. Looking forward dinning there again on Fathers Day!!

I am a long term customer of Ingolf’s. This German restaurant offers superb value for money! The quality of the food has never disappointed me and again and again, I enjoy the cozy atmosphere, the cool beer and the rich choice of excellent dishes prepared by Chef Julian. Recently Ingolf has opened an additional section for non-smokers, as the original space is normally fully occupied. Ingolf and Julian have run Ingolf’s Kneipe for 10 years and what demonstrates better that customers are satisfied with the quality and volume of food, the cozy atmosphere and the service by his staff.

In response to the comments of June 5 by gill gill, I would like to state that also restaurant customers can occasionally be very rude and should not be surprised to receive a less than satisfying service. During the many times I visited Ingolf’s Kneipe I have never seen any “flying coasters” or otherwise rude behavior of the waiters.

Apparently gill gill has not been in Germany, where the majority of small restaurants (Kneipe) source from suppliers. What makes the difference between a good and mediocre restaurant is the PREPARATION of the dishes from these sourced ingredients, and in my view, Ingolf’s Kneipe ranks high in the group of good restaurants.

I disagree with the writer! Many dishes in Ingolf’s Kneipe are home-made e.g. Goulash soup (you don’t find any better in Penang), the unique Pork Knuckle, Pork Goulash, Beef and Pork Patties, Jaegerschnitzel, Beef Rolls and Chicken Meat Loaf, just to mention a few. And don’t forget all of his tasty sauces! All Home-Made and all German!

As in politics, where there should be an opposition party, Ingolf’s Kneipe cannot have only friends and gill gill has her free choice to find another restaurant and continue nagging about that…

Signed, another regular and satisfied customer of Ingolf’s Kneipe

Everyone is entire to their own opinion …..but…….Geezz, Gill Gill, u dont have a clue about German Food, do u?? Thats a shame, u should make a trip to Germany and learn more.
I have always been a regular at Ingolfs, what I have to say is the food is one of the best in penang. Its purely original german cuisine and my husband and i never fail to be there during the weekend , though I live in another end of the island.
Great compliments to Chef Julian and Chef Ingolf. And please ignore the awful blogs, you are doing great!!

vk: Ms Dora, you are right about every one entitling to their own opinions.. So let Gill Gill’s thoughts be heard :) Thank you for your kind comment!

  18. nini

i went there twice.. ..the price is reasonable and every dishes is in very big portion..the salad, mashed potatoes everything is big portion… i would recomment to try their garlic prawn pasta.. really nice.. the sausage not bad.. but sometimes u have to wait quite long for the food.

vk: Lucky you! I only been there once! The other 2 times when I tried to go back they were closed.. sigh

Their service is really bad especially the manager. So rude. I went with my colleagues for a farewell dinner and one came a bit late (we booked from 7.30 to 8.30). We he asked for menu, the manager rudely said ‘I need my table back at 8.30pm’

I went there again last week for my birthday. My friend booked for 8 people and 11 people turned up. The table is quite small even for 8 so we asked whether we can have a table top. The manager acted busy and only answered us after a few minutes. At first he said not enough waiter to carry out the table top and we said we can carry cause got a few guys in our group but later he said too many customers. He didn’t want to disturb other customers. That’s really a lousy reason. We were so pissed off and went to the restaurant beside instead (bulgarian restaurant). The lady boss is really nice. Cause it was last minute and so many of us, she still manage to get us a big table.

  21. C.Paz

Hey..i visited this restaurant last Friday after seen your blog here..
The food are very nice…especially those with mushroom sauce..
Price cheap, food nice and good environment..

    Every1 should have a try..^=^

vk: Thanks.. glad you liked the food there.. Was kinda worried because I received some complaints about their service

  22. Shiryn

What good German food? You call this food? My family & I ordered the German Butcher Platter for RM 44.90 per plate. What was on it? 3 sausages, 1 slice of luncheon meat from the can, frozen ham from plastic packs, 2 miserable meat balls & 2 frozen hash browns.

WHAT CAN YOU SAY, AN ANG-MOH CANNOT POSSIBLY MAKE WANTAN MEE/HOKKIEN MEE & CHAR KUEY TEOW PROPERLY RIGHT?

  23. Shiryn

GILL GILL you are so ignorant! You obviously do not anything you are talking about or worst you ARE related to the owner.

    EVERYTHING TEHRE IS FROZEN DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to Cold Storage and look for the Packed Ham, the sausages, go and look for meat wholesellers (selling frozen food ) like POK BROTHERS for instance……you can find the sausages, hash browns (which they call potato cake) …………………………………………….

You are so ignorant you should not even be allowed to write anything here.

Give me a break………………people like you really exist???

vk: Hi Shriyn, no need to be rude :) Thanks

  24. Shiryn

Just read what I sa about what they serve and tell me. I am sure you agree that you don’t like to be cheated eating frozen prepared food in a “German” Restaurant. Emmes I wish you see this

vk: Actually I am not that geng to detect whether the food is frozen or not lor. But me and my family quite liked the food there, we had a good time. Anyway do you have any other German restaurants to recommend?

  25. David

Never had anything but good food and service there.

Presentation is always nice looking and food is fresh!

  26. INGOLF SOSSNA

    TO SHIRYN,
I AM INGOLF, REGARDING YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT GERMAN FOOD.
OUR BUTCHERPLATTER CONSISTS OF: ONE PIECE OF GERMAN PORKSAUSAGE(YOU CANNOT BUY AT COLD STORAGE!!!) ONE PIECE OF SMOKED COUNTRY SAUSAGE AND ONE PIECE OF CHICKENSAUSAGE, AS WELL NOT AVAILABLE AT COLD STORAGE OR ANY OTHER SUPERMARKET IN PENANG!!! THE PIECE OF “CANNED LUNCHEONMEAT” WAS A BAKED CHICKENMEATLOAF! AS WELL THERE ARE TWO SMALL PIECES OF PORKMEATBALLS, TWO SLICES OF GRILLED HAM, TWO GRILLED PORKBACONRASHERS AND TWO CHICKENCHIPOLATAS, SIDE DISHES ARE: APLATE OF GERMAN SAUERKRAUT, MASHED POTATOES AND HOMEMADE ONIONSAUCE, AS WELL AS TWO PIECES OF EUROPEAN POTATOCAKES NOT HASHED BROWNS!!! THESE POTATOCAKES ARE SEASONED WITH HERBS AND ONIONS, HASHED BROWNS ARE JUST SHREDDED POTATOES.

BY THE WAY: EVERY K0AY TEOW STALL BUYS THEIR NOODLES FROM THE FACTORY, YOU CONDEMN THIS STALLS AS WELL BECAUSE THEY BUY THEIR PRODUCTS?

YES, AND YOU BETTER DON’T MEET ME OR “You be Solly leh!” AGAIN!

Even VK agrees, “Shriyn, no need to be rude Thanks”

  28. Joey Saw

Argument over comments on food? :s Been to Ingolf’s a couple of times. Food is good albeit a bit salty for my taste but it’s not as horrible as commented. Btw, do you seriously think rumors wouldn’t spread by now if the food is frozen or canned food? The waiters or waitresses who seen it would have done so for your part. ;) Nobody likes to be cheated after paying for their food. I used to work in Secret Recipe, and i don’t encourage ppl to go there because it’s not worth the price. :)

  29. ammoi

hiiiii mr ingolf..1st of all a would like to thank you coze the food is really dam nice, more the lunch staff is nice 2 me aso and service good..tq

  30. Dianne

    Shiryn,

Apparently, your general knowledge on European food is just ‘skin deep’ and you are totally in no position to make such unfair statements! ! It is better to be thought a fool than to open your big fat mouth and remove all doubts.

  31. jim

We are there 3 weeks ago. The staff there were super rude. They made mistakes to serve our food to other tables for more than 10 minutes and just throw all the food to our table without even a single apologies. Banned that place forever.

  32. Brandon

I am a regular there, the service may not be a 100 % customer satisfactory, i have to agree, despite that many people still go there. Why? Because the food is really good and value for money and there isnt a 10% service charge. The only problem is, its difficult to get a group seating during the weekends and festive holidays.

  33. Cullen

    Shiryn,

For your information, as you said if everything you can get in cold storage, then i think you can also get the hokkien mee, wan tan mee’s ingredients from every market, right? But do you really think that you know how to cook it? Please look before you leap. Thanks.

  34. Default

First of all , i do think that THIS IS A VERY NICE restaurant and if you guys keep on complaining about this and that , well i say DON’T COME BACK !

I WONDER HOW THE WEBSITE MODERATOR COULD LET YOUR COMMENTS PASS???

THANK YOU AGAIN “DEFAULT” FOR DEFENDING OUR LITTLE RESTAURANT.

Service is horrible!! Went there on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy but not THAT busy. There were still empty tables available. We patiently waited to be seated. NO ONE came to greet us or bring us to our table. We were TOATLLY IGNORED by the waiters. We then looked for a table on our own. We sat next to a s**t-for-brains couple who were smoking. There were children around and they were smoking in an air-conditioned restaurant. The staff did nothing. Isn’t smoking in an air-conditioned restaurant forbidden? We then swiched tables away for the smokers. Only then the waiter came over after being told quite loudly by the senior waiter that the table we were sitting was reserved. There was no sign on the table indicating that the table was reserved. Naturally we spewed on the waiter. Then we walked out. I am NEVER going to this resuatrant again. Strictly for those who love being ignored and ill-treated by waiters.

  38. INGOLF SOSSNA

TO TEDDY, YOU SHOULD NOT SIT DOWN ON EMPTY TABLES EVEN IF THERE IS NO RESERVED SIGN ON IT!!! ALWAYS WAIT FOR THE STAFF TO SHOW YOU AN AVAILABLE TABLE. FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS WE ARE ALWAYS FULLY BOOKED.
EVEN AT FASTFOOD OUTLETS SOMEONE HAS TO WAIT AT TIMES!!! PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT THE LOWER LEVEL OF MY RESTAURANT IS AN OPEN DOOR AREA, WHERE SMOKING IS ALLOWED, OUR UPPER LEVEL ON THE FIRST FLOOR IS A NON-SMOKING AREA!!!!!!!!!!
THERE IS TOTALLY NO NEED TO BE SO STUFFED UP AGAINST MY STAFF. THANK YOU FOR NOT COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! INGOLF

    1. milkgirl

whoa, although there is criticism, but you shouldn’t shout at people. That is a bit rude. In the food and services line,we should always accept comments and improved the staffs if there is bad comments on the staffs. No matter how good is the food, bad services will always decreased the interest of people come to dine in. I read comments from blogs on your restaurant’s services. So I went to see myself today, at 1st your staff didn’t attend me when I came in, so I approached them for a seat. Services of serving were normal. Maybe you can improved your staff’s attitude toward the customer when customer come in. Example, the waiters can ask new came in customers to wait a while while he is busying serving dishes. That will improved the services then. Just a comment by me, you can ignored if you don’t like.:)

      1. Mike

I totally agree with your comments milkgirl. It is rude to shout even if we feel that what is being said is totally unjustified. This blog gives valuable feedback to the owner and interested parties as to the quality of food and services provided. If it is offensive just don’t read it and be riled by its content. It is pretty clear from the postings above that the food may be pretty decent but there is an issue about the service provided. The first time I went, my wife and I was asked to sit under a staircase when there were many empty tables around. The waiter attending to us was impolite to say the least and adamant that we follow his ‘instructions’ and sit in this confined space even though we requested to be sitted in one of the MANY empty tables around. No reason was offered. This was lunch not dinner. Suffice to say, we left. Now, how the owners deal with this is entirely up to them. They may be combative/defensive and say “I don’t give a damn as my business is still good and the crowds are still coming” and type everything in caps OR they can talk to their staff and try to improve on the service provided and see their business bloom and prosper. At the end of the day, is it just dollars and cents that matter? If so, then say it out loud so that people may be sufficiently warned. What I do not appreciated are charlatans in the service industry who are less than civil, boorish and arrogant when we are the paying customers who basically go to a restaurant such as this in anticipation of a nice meal. Nobody in their right mind goes for lunch/dinner just to pick a quarrel or to be nasty to the people they meet. We most certainly do not need to be insulted by ill mannered staff or owner(s) who do no credit to the fine cuisine or restaurant they purportedly serve. In this respect, you should shape up or ship out.

I had a very unpleasant experience recently to celebrate a friend’s farewell dinner as well!

Since there are 5 of us, we decided to call to book a few days in advance. When we were there, we had a check with the waiter manning the bar for our reservation and this slightly plump chinese guy told us there were none reserve under my name. Fine, but no apologies whatsoever! He finally point to a table reserve for about 10 people and ask us occupy that table but kept telling us to leave by 8.30 and no longer. Again it’s ok with us as there are two time slots.

Came the time to order our meals. This chinese lady waitress working that night was very impolite & unprofessional. When a friend ask to repeat the fruit juice available, she repeated it in such a way that as if we have already been asking her a few times & she is just tired with it attitude when this is only the second time. Is this how you treat your customer?? If this is causing such an “inconvenicence” to the waiter/waitress then they should probably just state it in the menu.

Our meals came, we ask for ketchup and an extra plate, before I could even finish my sentence & the waitress had already left. The ketchup came and the extra plate only came after 2 reminder. What an awfull experience! All these while we had not done or said anything to deserved such treatment.

Finally came the bill, paid using credit card. The credit card slip came for me to sign and the pen was literally thrown on the table!!

Me and my friends had a very unpleasant experience and we don’t intend on returningas well.

    hi,

Ingolf, I wonder if you are indeed the real owner of the restaurant here. Most restaurant owners would normally welcome constructive comments and feedbacks from the customers so as to further improve on their food and services quality. It appears that you are very arrogant and refuse to accept any criticism. Hope that you can be more open towards the feedbacks given. Some feedbacks can be taken positively as means to continuously improving on the overall quality of your restaurant.

Thank you very much for your kind attention. Peace. V__V

  42. Karl Georg Beckstein

    hi everybody ,
please excuse my bad english , but i am a citizen from old germany . i was amused of the threads about ingolfs kneipe in penang . the german word kneipe means already : a small pub with some food , when you
enter a kneipe you should not expect high quality food.
i was there some days before and it was what i expect .
what make me afraid after my visit is the fact that now
all the people in penang think this have something to do
with german tradition food and german warm welcomes
for the guests . it is not like what mr. ingolf perform .
the non smoker area first floor looks as an cantina for
truckdrivers ,after the second . the service was also lausy
as the food .schnitzel a very easy german food , was fried in a very bad oil , the mashed potatoes never see potatoes , must be some instant pack .the gulash soup .so la la , no bread ,only sweet dinner roll.
the only what was okay the porkbelly , if you take the sauce away .
the wonder was , this kneipe was nearly fully booked . some days later , i tried again , because everybody gets a second chance . this time i can not give any comment because ,after we get the menu , we was not
served at all . the service has to make some pictures from a group of locals , drinking beer. so we left after 15 minutes .
i am a german chef , i already retired and travel around
the world , but usually a should open a really german restaurant in penang , only to show up what it means when germans wecomes there guests and how the food tastes.
all this critics will not effect mr. ingolf , as he wrote before , but a really german restaurant will do .
or make it better ingolf , but it seems you are resistand
    to any critics .

    1. Sigurd Haaksma

      Lieber Herr Beckstein,

In the last 8 years I enjoyed dinner in Ingolf’s Kneipe on over 600 days. I appreciate the German style of food selection and preparation, the value for money, the fast service and the homely ambiance. Fortunately for Ingolf, there are hundreds of similarly minded customers that fill his restaurant, almost daily to the rim.

Talking about the rim, you refer to the second floor expansion as a ‘cantina for truck drivers’. You claim to be a retired chef and I can only assume that you must have retired from one of such ‘cantina for truck drivers’, as any chef with higher qualification would review a new restaurant and take mental notes, instead of voicing his unqualified opinion on the anonymous internet – only after one and a half visit.

The ‘half’ visit refers to your claim that you had left Ingolf’s Kneipe after 15 minutes, not receiving attention by a waiter. Did it ever come to your mind, to raise your hand and call one of the 6 (+) waiters, present during dinner time? Or, being a German, did you ever claim to Ingolf in your mother’s tongue?

You rightfully apologize for your bad command of English. With over 27 years of daily English correspondence with German companies, I believe that I can judge the type of mistakes Germans make when they write in English. Your comments were full of linguistic and factual mistakes, not of the type that Germans make!

I have searched Google for your name in the internet, and only 3 hits point at your recent comments, giving me reason to believe that Ingolf’s Kneipe has been the first and the last restaurant that you have ever evaluated. Your inexperience renders the comments as plain untrustworthy.

This imposturous behavior raises the question ‘What did you gain by writing these unqualified and only negative comments? Were you paid to do so?’

If you would have the civil courage and dignity to reveal your true identity and proof that I am wrong, you name the place for dinner in Penang and I will pay for food and beverages!

      Sigurd Haaksma.

    2. Sigurd Haaksma

      Beckstein,

Your non-reply proves that, as I assumed, you are an imposter, a guy that is paid to write only negative comments. Your behavior, and that of your paymaster, is ‘under the girdle’ and your incompetent and untrue comments should be removed from this page. I herewith cancel my dinner invitation, as I don’t share my food with people that have no civil decency and hide behind the anonymous internet.

    WOW!!
THIS ANTI INGOLF’S KNEIPE WEBSITE HAS GONE INTERNATIONAL NOW.
I DO NOT WANT TO GO INTO YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT MY FOOD BECAUSE THEY ARE C…….Y! YOUR COMMENT ON LEVEL ONE DID UPSET ME. YOU MUST NOT HAVE BEEN IN A TRUCKDRIVERS CANTEEN FOR A LONG TIME OTHERWISE YOU WOULD RECOGNIZE THE DIFFERENCE. ALL MY CUSTOMERS LIKE THE UPPER FLOOR FOR ITS DECORATION, PICTURES ETC.
PICTURES ARE FREQUENTLY TAKEN AND CUSTOMERS TELL THE STAFF THAT THEY LIKE BEING SEATED UP HERE!
FOR YOUR COMMENTS THAT MY FOOD IS NOT GERMAN I BEG TO DIFFER!!! MY RESTAURANT IS OPRATING NOW ALREADY FOR 13 YEARS, DO YOU HONESTLY THINK THIS RESTAURANT WOULD BE HERE SO LONG IF THE FOOD IS NO GOOD?
EVEN WITH TWO OTHER GERMAN STYLE OUTLETS IN STRAITS QUAY I MANGE TO HOLD ON TO MY LOYAL CUSTOMERBASE.
    (EXCEPT THE ANTI INGOLF PEOPLE)
ON YOUR THOUGHTS TO OPEN A RESTAURANT IN PENANG I LOOK FORWARD TO SOME COMPETITON!
NOT ONLY WORDS LET SOME ACTION FOLLOW!
YOU SEEM TO JUST FIT IN THIS ANTI INGOLF BLOG!!!

I dont understand how anyone is complaining. maybe the staff has changed within those many years of operation? I have been eating there for 2years. never once has my family, my friends and I received any sort of bad service. eventhough there were a time where i always had to turn away when i find it closed, i still keep going back, though now, to be safe, i call beforehand to check for availability. but to compare the food with the other german restaurants in Penang (not anywhere else), this would be the best as the food portion and price is absolutely reasonable.

I actually wanted to look for Ingolf’s telephone number in order to make reservation, and I found this website.

I am malaysian chinese, born in Penang, living in Singapore for about 9 years already. Just came back from Singapore for 2011 father’s day. 9 years ago when I was preparing for my STPM, I always wanted my dad to bring me to Ingolf Kneipe for its mixed grill or pork chop with black pepper and mushroom sauce really every week. After I finished my STPM, I even worked part time there for 2 months while waiting for my STPM result. My dad and I have more compliment than complaint in term of food taste and value. I always recommend my friends and relative there for dinner. I like the black pepper and mushroom sauce and I always asked for extra sauce until Julian didnt want to give it to me. That time it was still free. I think it should be because of me, now Ingolf charges for additional cup of sauce. Lol.. what a funny and memorable experience. For all customer, please do not expect too much from the waiters there because working there is not easy because there is a rather hot temper german boss watching over you. (Tut mir leid, Ingolf =P). I recalled that I needed to <> to the kitchen to fetch foods when I heard a bell ring, wash beer glasses/cups, take food order and make dessert. It was very exhausted and tiring.

Just appreciate the German beer music and food ;) Guten Appetit.
