Golden BBQ Steamboat Restaurant

September 8, 2007

Nagore

Golden BBQ Steamboat Restaurant located along Nagore Street (Jalan Nagore)is a buffet style steamboat restaurant. Besides steamboat, you can also fry or barbecue food on the round pan beside the pot. Most restaurants that offer this style of steamboat are usually eat all you can for a fixed price.

It is very easy to find this place. Just look for the largest restaurant in that area, which links three double storey shop house. Business is brisk and the restaurant would be crowded with customers usually by night.

Food

The selection of food is pretty good here, because they have to make up for both steamboat and BBQ. Although most of the food here are fish balls, seasoned meat and vegetable you will still find some seafood (cockles, kapah, prawns and mantis prawns! if you are lucky) The only gripe I have is the freshness of the seafood.. The prawns are soggy when cooked.. nothing is worse than that. Anyway, the seafood’s freshness was quite expected for a buffet styled steamboat.

The meal was quite messy so there’s no photo of the food we had. They ain’t very nice for showing either lol. Here, the charge is RM18 nett for adult and RM9 for children. I thought it was very reasonably priced. Golden BBQ Steamboat has a website at Golden BBQ Penang so make sure you check it out if interested! If you have been to any good buffet steamboat please leave a comment, I’d like try more. Thanks in advance.

I don’t really like these type of steamboat either! It always leaves me greasy from my hair to my face and my clothes stink as well but it’s kinda fun to eat with lots of friends like that sometimes. Food always taste better when you get your hands dirty isn’t it?
I like the first picture very much btw. :)

nathaniel c - I heard about Xuan Xin before too, and I wanted to try but it’s a bit far from where I am staying. Perhaps next time :)
    Thanks for the recommendation

This quite good place to have it. prepare to sweat ..so much its as if u are bathing, but no complains, its the cooking part …which is definitely more fun then the whole eating process..

I visited the Golden BBQ Steamboat restaurant and i love it so much. Although it’s always crowded, you will find variety good food and unique ambience, surrounded with old chinese buildings. Food are fresh and niche to my tastes naturally. The restaurant owner were quite friendly and helpful at the same time.

I have been to another bigger BBQ restaurant in town but too many dishes for you to choose from and ultimately i end up wasting food and overall i struggle to eat more for that.

Thanks Golden BBQ Steamboat for making BBQ Steamboat such a good choice for casual hangout and having excellent food at the same time.

hmm…we’re regular customer before…but not now..price increase is reasonable cuz they has add-on alot of new food..but…prob is service..especially the fatty boss..
He seems don’t like customer to be sitting there for more than an hour..or those who take alot of food from the food tray..

    I suggest xuanxin steamboat..no such stink/oily..food are nice..and especially the service..Thumb up!

vk: Ooo that’s a bad news.. I quite liked Golden Steamboat actually :( You know, one thing that prevented me from visiting Xuan Xin was due to the fact that they don’t allow photography in the restaurant!

Give JL Steamboat a try. It just located opposite row with Golden BBQ. It is fully air conditioned and teppanyaki as well. I heard they will setup a chocolate fountain. Yum yum! The price is cheaper than Xuan Xin. I also don’t like they don allow customer to take photo.
