Sunway Hotels are rated as a 4 or 5 or even 6 star hotel in Malaysia. It is expansive if you want to stay there for a night. With the discount rates of up to 40%, I think it’s worth it. Not everyday you can stay in a high class hotel in such a low price!

Hi, I’ve been looking for better rates for Penang hotel. The last time I went there, I stayed at Parkroyal because I got the special “under renovation” rate RM160 only. The place was great and I’m looking forward to go back there. Do you have Parkroyal in your list as well? Or any other beach resort in Penang?

hearty – Nope, Parkroyal is not in my list. And you were very lucky to get RM160 rate, I think the normal rate would be at least RM300… If you are interested in Beach hotel, how about Copthorne Orchid Hotel? It’s beside the beach and you can go for a nice German meal at Ingolf’s Kneipe in the evening

I need a double room, best if facing the beach preferably Batu Feringhi or Tanjung Bungah. I’m looking for 4 stars hotel actually. Parkroyal is my first choice but it’s way too expensive now…sigh.

hearty, I do not charge anything because I am just helping my friend out. Well from my research it seems that Copthorne Orchid is indeed a 4 star hotel, and it is located in Tanjung Bungah too.

I’ve stayed in Copthorne Orchid before and don’t feel like going back there, I’m sure they have not done any major refurbishments.
I think this time I will go for G hotel, wanted a beach resort at first but what to do…
Anyway, do you know where I can get a good Penang map? Assuming you are a Penang lang, which place is a “must go” there?

hearty, the best place to get Penang maps is the airport. I’ve grabbed a few of them my self
The ‘must go’ place would be Penang Hill, Kek Lok Si (best time to go is CNY, but still ok), Butterfly Farm(very recommended), all the burmese temples in Burma road, Esplanade to see the ex-city hall, and all the Kongsi in Georgetown. E.g. Khoo Kongsi, Lim Kongsi, Cheah Kongsi etc. The grandest would be Khoo Kongsi and it is an amazing house, great place for taking photos. If you are willing to pay for the entrance fee, Cheong Fatt Tze mansion is also a good visit (I never been there, feel it’s too expensive) And lets not forget Little India, Komtar, Chulia Street, Kapitan Keling Mosque area for the sights and food.
*If you are not interested in visiting temples.. can ignore all the temples above
But Penang is well known for its rich heritage
