Malaysia Food Blog, Malaysia Travel Blog

BM Kia says..
As I read through my blog posts for 2008, I found most of them are restaurant related reviews. I think this is deviating from my original purpose of food blogging, which is to discover and promote local foods, especially hawker fares. If not, it wouldn't be fit to be called "Malaysia Food Blog" So, my main aim of blogging for year 2009 would be to continue to do what I actually enjoyed the most - to travel, discover and promote cheap and tasty food.

Mizi Bistro @ New World Park

Posted by: vkeong In: Food and Drink| Penang| Western Food () (36 views)

If you have been working in Penang then you would have probably seen this circulating email regarding Mizi Bistro. Contained in the email was Ling Zie’s review of Mizi Bistro. The review was done not long after it opened at New World Park. It was forwarded so widely that I have received it myself thrice, all from different company emails!

Everyone in my office (including me of course) who read the email had the same urge - wanting to try the food in Mizi Bistro so badly because the food looked very good. Price was reasonable too. We had the set lunch @ RM16.90 per person, which includes a soup, drink and dessert.

chicken pramigiana

My choice for the main course was from the chicken/meat menu. It was Chicken Paramigiana.. what a difficult name to pronounce lol. It’s basically crumb-coated breast of chicken, topped with tomato, mozzarella cheese and oregano. The chicken breast sits on top of a serving of pasta. When it arrived I thought to myself, “oh my god, this is gonna be soooo good!” It looked so delicious I can’t wait to taste it.

Unfortunately, it looked much much better than it tasted. The chicken was crunchy alright but the wet pasta made it soggy afterward. And the pasta was pretty much tasteless too. The ingredients just didn’t went well with each other, it was really weird combination. So, I kinda forced myself to finish the whole thing, I didn’t want to waste any food.

mushroom soup

This is the soup that came with the set meal. There’s an option of Borshch or mushroom soup.

coffee and lime juice

And the drinks.. coffee had the kick I wanted.

steamed fish my dream

Siang Leng’s chose Steamed Fish “My Dream” for her main course. It’s a fillet of fish filled with sauteed spinach and prepared in a cream sauce laced with lobster butter. Wow, lobster butter. No wonder it tasted so good. I don’t usually order fish for my mains but this dish that would probably be an exception. For desserts there’s an ice cream counter.

mizi bistro

To be honest I wasn’t really blown away by the food. There are many alternatives in Penang that I’d recommend. However it was one of the more affordable restaurants for Western food in New World Park. To see other food they have to serve, head to Ling Zie’s blog. She has taken quite a number of food photos to drool over. That chicken + prawn dish looked absolutely tempting!!

hey vkeong, me and my family was there at mizi bistro when you and your gf were there i think back in december/january right? I have been a reader of your blog for a while but i didnt dare to say hi because i thought you look a little angry at that time. Now i know why, you maybe do not enjoy the food haha… anyway just want to say that the food as i remember was not too bad for its price, desert though can definately improve the pudding is way too swet and ice cream is very icy, instead of creamy. But then again its only rm16.90 for 3 course plus drinks right? cant expect too much la…

I think this place was drawing in the crowd by the truckloads coz of the RM16.90 price tag, not so much for the quality or the taste. Then they went ahead and increased the price to RM19.90 earlier this year. Not very wise.

I too went there a couple of weeks ago, but didn’t really enjoy the food (poach fish suzzanne) I ordered…hence no post about it.
Other than the club sandwich, what else is good to order? I don’t want to be regretting over my choice again next time!! :(

I wanted to visit the place but was warned about how commercialized it had gone into. That’s the reason I did not patronize the shop although I’m staying quite near. But I might just pop in to try some of the recommendations here. It’s better than to get a bad order for my money’s worth.. haha :P

I’ve tried the chef recommendation for a combi of 3 meats : fish, chicken and lamb. And my, the lamb was like a rock. however, I love their mushroom soup. Thick + very creamy. :D

Nice pictures you got there!

Well, i have visited once to specially try the mushroom soup. But i think the mushroom soup is not as good as the Fisherman’s Grilled restaurant near to Relau there.
