Malaysia Food Blog, Malaysia Travel Blog

BM Kia says..
As I read through my blog posts for 2008, I found most of them are restaurant related reviews. I think this is deviating from my original purpose of food blogging, which is to discover and promote local foods, especially hawker fares. If not, it wouldn't be fit to be called "Malaysia Food Blog" So, my main aim of blogging for year 2009 would be to continue to do what I actually enjoyed the most - to travel, discover and promote cheap and tasty food.

Big Apple Donuts @ Midvalley The Gardens

Posted by: vkeong In: Food and Drink| Halal| Petaling Jaya| Selangor| Snack () (61 views)

Now this is something that we can only get in KL and Selangor area cannot get in Penang.. Big Apple donuts. I wonder when only it will open a branch in Penang and spread the donut craze. RM9.50 for half a dozen, it is surprisingly cheaper than Dunkin Donuts.

The donuts’ making process is publicly shown through the open glass.. which I think is pretty cool. At least there’s something for you to look at while waiting in the ever long queue. But, you will be probably too busy making up your mind choosing from the many flavors Big Apple has to offer.

What I like most among the ones we took is the Alien vs Predator donut (lower left). Why the name? Because they made it specially for the movie. It tastes awesome with lots of chocolate cream topped with even more chocolate strips. Maybe I am biased because I love chocolate lol. To me, it is the most worthy donut to pick for the generous amount of ingredients used.

2nd favorite would be the white chocolate donut filled with peanut butter (lower right) Chocolate + peanut butter.. what’s not to like! The Oreo donut doesn’t really taste like Oreo though.. hmm.

I’m still waiting for Big Apple to be in Penang. They do have one in Tesco Ipoh but why not Tesco Penang?? RM9.50 for the box of six is still quite ok. I got six from J.Co and it cost me RM1 more :P

vk: Yeah, true. It’s dying off but still going very strong.. I still see a lot of people queuing at the outlets and carrying the boxes around. Not bad that the craze could’ve lasted for 6 months!

You can find Big Apple at Mergong Tesco in Alor Star. So, if you want a bite, can always take a one hour drive up north.

The best Donut I know in my country is J.co. My favorite one is glassy, the one with melted sugar toping. I haven’t tried Big Apple…I’m not sure if it is available in my country now.
