Ngau Kee Beef Noodles @ Tengkat Tong Shin

Posted by: vkeong In: Food and Drink| Hawker Food| Kuala Lumpur ()

I’ve always heard and read how tasty KL’s beef noodles are compared to Penang’s beef koay teow. So, I simply found a beef noodle stall nearest as well as most convenient to go for me, which is Ngau Kee Famous Beef Noodle at Jalan Tengkat Tong Shin. It is quite popular and has received good reviews by quite a number of food bloggers. Therefore, I looked forward for a good and tasty meal.

beef noodle soup

OK, first thing I noticed - the noodles are very much alike wantan mee’s noodles. And the beef balls come separately in a bowl of beef soup. The coke glass gave a special nostalgic feeling.. not many stalls are using these kind of glasses anymore. Except the very old ones.

beef noodles

We ordered both dried and soup version of the beef noodles. The dried one does not come with beef balls though. It is simply topped with minced beef cooked with thick soy-sauce. The beef balls are just for presentation purpose, lol.

dry beef noodle

I hate to admit this, but Ngau Kee’s beef noodles taste nicer compared to Penang’s beef koay teow.. especially the dried one. Really hou hou sek. The beef soup is thick and flavorful, and the minced meat is just awesome. Just my sampah opinion.

ngau kee

I don’t know if the price has increased since I went long before the fuel hike. The price that time was RM5 per bowl of noodles, and RM6 per bowl of beef balls in clear soup.

I also noticed some have stopped patronizing Ngau Kee because they say the quality has dropped a lot. I can really see that because the stall was quite empty when we went, there were only 2 tables of customers during lunch time.
But, if like what they say the quality has dropped, I can’t imagine how good the noodles were when Ngau Kee was at its best. Because this is already very good enough for me! I don’t think you will have any problem finding this place. But still, here’s the map.

Yes, it was indeed better in the good ol’ days. I eat there at night and it will taste better when Ngau Kee himself or Ngau So cooks it rather than others :o)

it seems that they are operating near to 24 hours a day…Maybe that explains the drop in quality due to the fatique of the owners….i still like them though (the dry ones), the soup variant is a little salty this time round…

vk: Drop in quality or not, I still find the noodles quite tasty (esp dry ones) haha
