7 Wonders Kitchen Restaurant @ Kajang

I have been hanging out in Kajang a lot lately and found a restaurant with a 8TV HoChak sign on the door. The best thing about this restaurant is its location - it is no where near the traffic jam area of Kajang town. Kajang may be a small town but the traffic jam can get really crazy especially in the evenings: it’d take half an hour to “crawl” over a distance of a few hundered metres by car, no kidding.
Anyway, the restaurant is called 7 Wonders Kitchen and is reportedly being famous for its Zha Jiang Mian and fried rice.
One of the top selling dishes as listed by 7 Wonders Kitchen is this Grandmother Fried Rice @ RM4.50. Funny name eh? Well, there’s another fried rice called Mother Fried Rice, lol. At first glance it didn’t look very special and kinda empty, only a sunny side egg on top. Ingredients wise there were prawns, green pepper and chicken.
After watching the HoChak episode online only I knew some kind of spicy and sour sauce is used to fry the rice, and the green peppers were to provide additional kick. Not really recommended for those who don’t like green peppers, as the flavor was pretty strong.
This is the popular Zha Jiang Mian 炸酱面 @ RM4 as mentioned earlier. Does anyone know the proper English name for this noodle? I looked up in Wikipedia and it says Fried Sauce Noodles, seems like a direct translation from its Mandarin name, lol. This is the normal version of Zha Jiang Mian in 7 Wonders Kitchen, mildly spicy. If you like it super hot, there’s Sze Chuan Zha Jiang Mian.
How it looked like after we mix it up. Quite tasty actually and good value for the big portion. I still prefer localized version of Zha Jiang Mian. Those served in so called authentic Chinese/Sze Chuan restaurants are not really my taste.
Another top selling dish is this Boxing Chicken (another funny name lol) @ RM6 for six pieces. They look like those drummets you can buy from Ayamas, don’t they? I certainly hope not.
Taste wise they were so-so, didn’t pack a lot of flavor. Better eat them enjoy them while they were still hot and crispy. For me, the biggest selling point for this dish is that each piece costs only RM1.
Overall I was quite happy with the meal. Inclusive of a mushroom soup and two drinks, the meal cost RM20.80 - quite reasonable if you ask me. The restaurant is a hit with the students studying in the nearby college for the cheap price and rather large portion size.
The only gripe I have is the slow service, lol. So, if you’re in Kajang next time why not pop into 7 Wonders Kitchen instead of eating same old Kajang satay again.
