Leng Ya Indah Yong Tau Fu @ Serdang
Oct 11th
I am probably the latest to blog about Leong Ya‘s famous Yong Tau Fu and Ji Bao Gai (Paper Wrapped Chicken) in [tag]Seri Kembangan[/tag]. Back in the days when I was still studying and working in MMU Cyberjaya, Seri Kembangan was one of the nearest towns we could go for shopping and movies.
We would take a bus to Serdang’s KTM and then walk to Mines shopping center. On the way there, we would surely walk past all three Leong Ya’s restaurants. See, I had so many opportunities to try the food but I didn’t. Kinda regret actually. But, now that I am back to Cyberjaya once again I finally got the chance to try it. Even so, this is a super long overdue post, lol.
We only ordered two pieces of [tag]Ji Bao Gai[/tag] and a small plate of [tag]Yong Tau Fu[/tag] to go with white rice. They have dai chow as well but my main objective is only to try the these two things.
You may get chicken wing, breast or drumstick depending on your luck. Getting the chicken wing would be the unluckiest one because it’s quite difficult to eat with fork and spoon lol.
The gravy might be a bit salty for some but it was OK for me if taken with rice. Each [tag]restaurant[/tag] has its own secret marinade which will the deciding factor in the [tag]paper wrapped chicken[/tag]‘s taste. But the usual ingredients will always have ginger, oyster sauce and maybe some five spice powder.
Another factor would be the warmth of the dish when served. From a separate experience, I noticed the taste and texture of the chicken would deteriorate greatly if eaten cold. So, if you see the restaurant is serving cold Ji Bao Gai you better avoid ordering it.
One thing that Leong Ya can improve on is to introduce a proper menu for the Yong Tau Fu items. Without it, customers had to listen to the waiters mumbling the food instead.
Do take note that the Yong Tau Fu is served together with the sauce. Well, that’s fine for me but I prefer to have the sweet sauce to come separated. If you are like me, remember to mention that to them. Taste wise I found it to be pretty normal and similar with other Yong Tau Fu around.
Leong Ya has three branches here, one with air-con at the front and another two behind it. Weird eh? And all the branches are only 5 minutes away from each other. Rumors say the family had a feud so the siblings are running the business on their own now.
Leong Ya Indah 梁雅(女) – was the branch I went, said to be run by the daughter. Anyway I am not interested in the rumor or their feud, but these cases seem to be quite common in F&B. When it comes to business and money, some won’t play nice even if it’s their own family.

Floating Seafood Paradise Restaurant @ Bukit Tambun
Oct 9th
I am continuing to explore the seafood restaurants in Bukit Tambun and Floating – Seafood Paradise restaurant was my stop this time. It is one of the largest seafood restaurant in [tag]Bukit Tambun[/tag] and located quite hidden from the road.
If you are driving a little too fast you might miss the turning as the sign board is not that big. As the name implies, the floating restaurant is the main attraction other than the food.
We saw the frog legs were exceptionally meaty compared to other restaurants so we just had to order it. It’s not easy to find [tag]seafood[/tag] restaurants that have meaty frog legs nowadays, skinny ones are just no no for me.
The best way to cook [tag]frog legs[/tag] to me is none other than using dried chilis (kung pao stlye) because they will rid of the unwanted smell. Some people perceive frog legs as exotic food but not for me. I have been eating them since young and have always been a fan of frog legs.
The dish was not as spicy as I expected and turned out to be a little sweet instead. Cost RM15 for about 4-5 frogs.
Tiger fish 虎鱼, a quite unknown species to most has one of the most delicate and sweet flesh. They are grey colored and can be easily recognized from their big, bulky head.
A full grown [tag]tiger fish[/tag] typically costs RM6-8 depending on its size.
Steaming is definitely the best way to cook them to ensure they taste the freshest. Also, unlike other fish they are usually skinned before being cooked. We had two, costing RM14.
Snowy Dessert Home @ Sunway Pyramid
Oct 5th
One day when we were shopping at Sunway Pyramid, we felt a little hungry and wanted to eat something to fill our stomachs. While walking around to hunt for food, we saw some pretty girls dressed in cute costumes handing out flyers of Hong Kong snacks.
You know, stuff like curry fish ball, little bowl fins 碗仔翅 and desserts. The food seemed interesting (and cheap) enough so we decided to give Snowy Dessert Home a try. Besides, the portions didn’t look big which was perfect for a quick bite. Trust me it wasn’t because of the cute girls we dined here. Well, maybe a little LOL.
What really caught my attention among all was this Italian Herbs Spaghetti @ RM8.90. It was one of the two available spaghettis to choose from, with the other one being Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce. Because the dish looked really great on the menu, we couldn’t resist ordering it. And the chef did a good job preparing it.
Pan Ki Dim Sum @ Sri Petaling
Oct 2nd
On the first day of Raya, I started off the day by having a wonderful [tag]dim sum[/tag] [tag]breakfast[/tag] at one of the best dim sum [tag]restaurant[/tag] in Sri Petaling – Pan Ki. Surprisingly, it has the same Chinese name with Phang Key – another good dim sum restaurant nearby in Happy Garden. I don’t know if they’re related but their dim sum is really different from each other.
The variety of dim sum at Pan Ki is wide and they have a big steaming station. Bamboo steamers stacked as tall as a man are used to cope with the huge customer turnout. I had to wait for a while before finally getting a table for two.
But the short wait has proven very worthwhile. The Har Gao was nice with succulent prawns wrapped in thin translucent skin that didn’t break easily – a proof of the chef’s skill.
Other steamed dim sum like Siu Mai and Har Mai are pretty good too.
