Malaysia Food Blog, Malaysia Travel Blog

BM Kia says..
As I read through my blog posts for 2008, I found most of them are restaurant related reviews. I think this is deviating from my original purpose of food blogging, which is to discover and promote local foods, especially hawker fares. If not, it wouldn't be fit to be called "Malaysia Food Blog" So, my main aim of blogging for year 2009 would be to continue to do what I actually enjoyed the most - to travel, discover and promote cheap and tasty food.

Dim Sum City @ Kampung Baru, Bukit Mertajam

Posted by: vkeong In: Bukit Mertajam| Dim Sum| Food and Drink| Non Halal| Penang () (43 views)

The famous Wong Chow dim sum restaurant in Bukit Mertajam is getting worse with sub par food being served and choices are very limited too. I have since blacklisted the restaurant, which is a shame because it used to be my favorite dim sum restaurant. Luckily I have found an alternative for my weekend dim sum fix - Dim Sum City (Dian Xin Cheng) at Kampung Baru.

I won’t be going into details about the dim sum here but they are mostly good tasting. I also think that their dim sum is the top in BM currently for quality and variety.

Besides Hong Kong style dim sum, Dim Sum City is also serving Taiwan and Shanghai styled dim sum. So, you will be spoilt for choice here.

This is how a typical weekend crowd looks like at Dim Sum City. Even though the restaurant is huge to accomodate hundreds of customers at one time, a free table is still kinda hard to find.

If you are like me who got disappointed by Wong Chow, do head to Dim Sum City located just after BM’s Old Town Kopitiam (on your right just before you reach Kampung Baru’s wet market on your left)

being a bm guy totally agreed with you the quality is fairly poor at Wong Chow nowadays ….. our favourite dim sum spot is at Golden Phoenix restaurant under airconditioning lol. GP is just a block away from Wong Chow……. Dim Sum City is also not bad but sometime find the fried stuffs are abit cold …. but maybe have improved recently with the variety of Taiwan and Shanghai styled dim sum ….. can’t wait to get back for my holiday to try those new varieties.

vk: Oh yeah you reminded me about Golden Phoenix.. I have yet to try the dim sum there.. I think I need to eat there next!

if can provide me a location map thats much more better~!! :)

vk: hi Elaine, please refer to this map http://wikimapia.org/#lat=5.3511179&lon=100.4727495&z=18&l=0&m=a&v=2 for the location. A simpler description would be to find Old Town Kopitiam opposite Taman Sentosa. Dim Sum City is only a minute’s drive further down from Old Town. Hope this helps. If you’re not local, do comment again and I will try to give you a better guide via email
