Hameed Nasi Kandar @ Signature Food Court, KLCC
Nov 6th
For those working in KLCC, I don’t know if you knew this. There’s a good and cheap Nasi Kandar stall in Signature Food Court at KLCC’s second floor.
Whenever I don’t feel like spending a lot for meal while shopping in KLCC, I’d head to Hameed’s Nasi Kandar for a plate of their nice and cheap nasi kandar. Seriously, RM4.80 for a meat and vegetable nasi kandar meal is damn cheap in KLCC. Heck, it’s even cheaper than what I could get in Cyberjaya!
My favorite would be Nasi Kandar Campur Kambing with kuah campur (mixed curry gravy) It tastes a lot better than many nasi kandar stalls out there, believe me. If you’re not into soft drinks, you’d be happy to know Hameed Nasi Kandar also sells the usual Malaysian drinks like teh or milo ais. Price is around RM1.80-RM2.00 if I am not mistaken.
Instead of curry chicken, Ayam Kicap (chicken in dark soya sauce) which tasted a bit sweet is included in the Nasi Kandar Campur Ayam. The portions might be a little small for some, but it does the job for me.
Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow
Nov 4th
At post time, I am seriously craving for Char Koay Teow. And although Lorong Selamat‘s Char Koay Teow is expensive for Penang’s standards, I would gladly pay RM10 or even more just to have a plate right here right now.
See the price tag, it’s RM5.50 for the smallest plate. That’s almost double the normal price. I am not sure if the price has gone up after the petrol hike. But, I hope not. By the way, this is just a rant post because I couldn’t get my hands on any good Char Koay Teow here yet.
I guess this stall is famous enough so I’d just skip the introductions and location map of Lorong Selamat. Yeah she’s notorious for being arrogant, ignores your special requests and you even have to queue up for her Char Koay Teow (self service).
One may argue there are many other Char Koay Teow stalls which are better, cheaper and friendlier than this one. But there’s no doubt her Char Koay Teow is one of the best in Penang. The extra large prawns that drive everyone’s attention, the fragrance and deliciousness from the plenty of wok hei are certainly not something easily found at my current area.
One unconfirmed story was that her stall was attacked with a brick from one of her unhappy customers. After that incident, the auntie was said to have improved her attitude towards customers. Any of you have insider stories to share?

Puchong Yong Tau Fu @ Puchong
Nov 3rd
Yeah, I know the title sounds weird. But, that’s the name for this famous and delicious yong tau fu restaurant in Puchong, simply “Puchong Yong Tau Fu”. I was actually brought here by my housemate who discovered the restaurant long time ago. Since then, I have been here a couple of times and it could have been more if not for the toll between Puchong and Cyberjaya.
The yong tau fu here is made fresh. Means, you choose the items like brinjals, lady’s fingers (okra), chili and the cook will stuff them with meat after that. I guess it’s safe to say that the yong tau fu here is really fresh and nothing is prepared beforehand.
I don’t know if you noticed, some yong tau fu restaurants already prepared the items earlier. So, when an order is made, they simply deep fry them again. We should insist on fresh food, no?
