Yap Beng Dry Bak Kut Teh @ Equine Park, Seri Kembangan

August 11, 2008

Currently I am really hooked to Dry Bak Kut Teh. Ever since I tasted it in Yap Chuan, I have been craving it especially when I am really hungry. Thankfully there’s Yap Beng in Equine Park, Seri Kembangan. Yap Beng is a Bak Kut Teh restaurant that serves good Dry Bak Kut Teh, almost equaling the standards of Yap Chuan.
I have eaten here a couple of times and have always left as a happy and satisfied customer. Not only the food’s good, the price is quite reasonable for me too.

What I really like is the Dry Bak Kut Teh’s fragrance and the heavier taste compared to the normal Bak Kut Teh. The dried shredded squid plays the biggest role in this dish providing most of the flavor. They look like small broken noodles in the photo. I just love taking photos of Bak Kut Teh, they always look so damn delicious.

Their Bak Kut Teh is of course not as tasty as those in Klang, but is still quite good compared to others. And I find the herbal taste in the soup is quite strong. Although this serving looks big, it is actually a set meant for a person only @ RM8.

Another thing I like about eating here is that they will also provide Bak Kut Teh soup if you order the dry one only. You don’t even have to ask, they will surely bring a small bowl for you. And soup refill is free of charge.

Since Dry Bak Kut Teh has almost no gravy, I use the soup to wet the rice. Trust me, it tastes really good that way. It’s like you’re getting the best of both dishes!

Besides Bak Kut Teh, Yap Beng also serves some seafood dishes like this Stir Fried Shark @ RM10. It is prepared with dried chilies, curry leaves, okra, ginger and lots of shallots. The taste is almost similar to Kung Pao, but not as spicy.
If you haven’t tasted shark meat before, you don’t know what you’re missing. It’s soft, tender and tastes absolutely wonderful, especially if cooked in curry!

It’s a huge serving for a dish costing RM10, especially shark meat. And behold the power of F1.8, really nice bokeh lol. I have yet to try the other seafood dishes like deep fried shark meat and stir fried prawns with chili. I can tell they are freaking delicious just from the name alone, lol.

I have read some other bloggers’ reviews on this restaurant giving it an average score only. For me the Dry Bak Kut Teh here is good and the soup one is OK. The seafood dishes are pretty rare in this area, so it’s really worth a try! I have marked the exact location for Yap Beng in wikimapia.

This looks far from Bak Kut Teh but once my helper was supposed to “poh tong” with herbs and chicken and she did the dry version instead and it was also very good.

Can u tell me where to get the best BKT in KL and Klang? Your soupy pic looks good enough.

    Thanks
