Sweet Potato Balls @ Petaling Street, KL
Do you know there’s a stall selling sweet potato balls outside the Tang City Food Court at Petaling Street? I didn’t until I bought TheStar’s Street Food Guide. My parents were in KL not too long ago for a short trip and I brought them to try the famous porridge at Hon Kee.
After that, while they went to buy some traditional biscuits at Fung Wong Biscuits to bring home, I went to find this stall and bought some to try.
It is said that the stall has been here for nearly 30 years, and the sweet potato balls are always prepared fresh.
Quoted from TheStar’s Food Guide:
The sweet potatoes are first steamed and mashed, and then mixed with sugar and flour to form the marble-sized balls, which are fried until golden brown. They are delicious eaten hot, accompanied by a steaming mug of coffee.
Well to be honest I don’t find anything spectacular about the sweet potato balls. But they had a nice crispy exterior, encasing a warm and soft interior. Only RM2 for 10 balls and I do agree that they are good to go with a cup of hot coffee.
There is a coffee stall in front of Fung Wong Biscuits selling some pretty interesting tea and coffee.. I purposely took a seat there to take a photo but didn’t order anything. Thinking back maybe I should have ordered a cuppa since because it seemed really popular with the morning crowd.
Not bad for a cheap and quick filling snack that can be enjoyed on-the-go. By the way, if you’re reading this today is the second day of my trip to Taiwan. Yeah I am in Taiwan now lol, I flew yesterday (this is a pre-written post) So, there won’t be any updates until I return. I bet I am having fun and enjoying all the delicious street foods!

Wah, can’t wait to see your food posts on Taiwan when you’re back!
I think the special thing about this stall is the “freshly prepared” part. I always ended up buying soggy sweet potato balls all the time in other places…. +_+
