Kee Kee Bentong Chicken Rice @ Yat Yeh Hing, Kelana Jaya
| Share |
One of the famous lunch places in Kelana Jaya area is Kee Kee Bentong Chicken Rice. I travel up and down LDP very often but never noticed its existance until my friends told me about it. I don’t know about you, but I would have never expected a normal looking seafood restaurant like Yat Yeh Hing to house a good Chicken Rice stall.
We reached around 12.15 pm and apparently it was the busiest time – it was almost full house. There’s even a queue to get the soup lol. From the other blogs, it is said a quarter of a chicken’s portion is the minimum order. But since there were four of us, this wouldn’t be a problem. So we ordered a combination of steamed and roast chicken.
If you noticed, Kee Kee’s chicken is bigger in size with yellower than usual skin, that’s because the birds used are claimed to be corn-fed. And although the chicken was chopped into big pieces, it was still tender and juicy, even the breast meat! I really enjoyed it. I think the secret is to not fully cook the chicken, this is pretty evident from the meat’s slight pinkish color and the trace of blood visible in the bones.
The bean sprouts was normal, huge portion though. Kee Kee’s other famous dishes are fried and chicken gizzards, intestines and the ‘Glass Chicken Feet’ – a jelly like dish made of chicken feet, which is said to be cold and tastes sour. But that day none of us were feeling adventurous enough to order any of the dishes mentioned, lol.
The chili sauce was great and went very well with the chicken rice, we had seconds. Shown here also is the ‘Sha Lei’ drink, or more known as Umbra juice to us Penangites, a very sour and addictive drink.
The roast chicken was equally good as well, just not as juicy as the steamed ones.
When we arrived, the stall was hung full with steamed chickens. And this is what was left when we finished our meal.. about 40% only. The chicken was selling like hot cakes and really showed the briskness of the business.
As listed on the stall front, they are famous for ‘Glass Chicken Feet’, steamed chicken and chicken soup. I didn’t try the soup because it was chargable and the queue was long, honestly I am regretting it now. But for ‘Glass Chicken Feet’.. hmm maybe next time lol.
Waiting time can be long when they’re busy so do come early to avoid this situation. If you tried any of the ‘interesting’ dishes, do let me know what you think about them ok? At the moment, just the chicken rice will do for me lol.
Restoran Yat Yeh Hing,
33, Jln SS4D/2, People’s Park. (Next to Kelana Jaya LRT station)
Open 10.30 am – 2.30 pm. Closed on first Tuesday of the month.

There is one stall at Puchong Kinrara (corner shop at another end of the shop lots behind Bintang Supermarket) that serve delicious Bentong chicken rice. The stall is managed by a chinese ‘chubby’ couple. Since I left M’sia, I started to miss their chicken rice. I used to patronize at least twice a week.
BTW, I love your blog…I am craving for M’sia food now…

The soup is provided FOC with self-service. Isn’t it?
Chicken gizzards, intestines and the “Glass Chicken Feet” are among the must-try dishes too.
On the price matter, it’s one of the most reasonably priced chicken rice stall. Delicious & served with big portion. My all-time favorite chicken rice stall.
As for their corn-fed chicken, I dont really believe the claim but I rather guess that they marinated the chicken with ginger prior to steaming/cooking.
vk: Yes, i think even the chili sauce is FOC if you take it yourself.. I guess they are promoting self service lol. Agree with the reasonable pricing.. i think it cost RM10 each of us for a meal like this.. the chicken given was A LOT! very recommended in my opinion

I like soup and I like the chicken soup despite you have to queue.
In fact I enjoy the soup more than the chicken.

Yes, i love this place… can have unlimited yummy soup – and it’s not chargeable lah! The soup is full of ingredients – they don’t stinge on that! Yeah, they promote self-service: take your own soup, refill your chilli sauce! But that’s a good practice to promote mah!

kee kee bentong… where is this stall in bentong… i go to bentong for food quite frequently as it is only about an hour from my house… the best chicken rice in bentong is a night stall in front of the kwangsai association building and close to the public bank building in jalan chui yin… it is usually sold out by 7.30pm…

chiabh, this stall is at Kelana Jaya, not Bentong
about 2 years ago
i know the stall is in kelana jaya… is it a branch of some stall in bentong as it is called bentong chicken rice… bentong is not known for its chicken rice… it is more noted for its kwangsai yong tau foo… and of course, the kow po ice cream…
about 2 years ago
I believe the stall name is because of the chickens that they use are originated from Bentong, and not because chicken rice is famous in Bentong

honestly, after i took a lunch with a friend in this place last few weeks, we all agreeded we would not return to this place anymore….
maybe its just our preference, the steamed chicken is cold, the roast chicken is too salty. after the meal we drank alot of water… (x_x). the only taste good food is their soup, this 1 really no complaint, full with ingredients. and some more i saw alot of ppl bring their own pots to tapao the soup… lol
besides the chicken, what i found taste good is the Char Siew from the Wantan Mee Stall. suprisingly its quite juicy, and the sweetness of the meat is just nice. after the meal few of us had tapao the wantan mee back home… lol

They are very stingy on their chillie. As I’m a chillie fan I took an extra small plate of chillie from the table beside the soup, The pink/purple hair auntie just took it back from my hand. She is very rude. I will not going back again.

dear v-keong. I know all the delicious chicken rice are cook by the chinese, and malay’s just can’t compete with them. Plaese v-keong… I repeat please….can you suggest any halal chicken rice that comes close to the chinese’s eventhough it is almost impossible.

lieza, I will try to look for halal chicken rice worth recommending

I’ve tried the Kee Kee Bentong Chicken Rice last Monday. Really nice. Fragrant rice. Chicken was good as well. But it was a bit disappointing because there was blood in the chicken. And worst still it was roasted chicken. I usually thought steamed chicken will usually have blood but this is the total opposite. I saw another person eating the steamed chicken and there was no blood!! But I would give it a 8/10.
As for halal chicken rice, I think the one in Subang Permai near FAM is okay. And its HALAL also…

Firstly, an acknowledgement to the owner of this website: Thanks for the space and opportunity for us to discuss our common interest and overwhelming passion – food – here.
Hi lieza, I understand your frustrations. I am in the same boat too – always on the look out for great halal Chinese food, kai fan in particular, but almost always disappointed with the standards available.
Whenever I have the time, I would rent a cab and go in search for “the best” halal Chinese food in town. By “The best” here, I mean, the numerous dishes recommended by online foodies. Sadly, more often than not, many of our friends (with good intentions no doubt) miss the mark by a mile or more.
For halal chicken rice, my personal choice is still the one at Bukit Bintang: Nasi Ayam Hainan Chee Meng. (They have branches in Old Klang Road and Damansara Uptown, Jalan 21/37 – the latter though is a far cry from the first two amentioned.)
The original BB outlet was once located just outside of BB Plaza and shifted somewhere opposite YTL building/Federal Hotel.
Another place to check out is Restoran Loke Yun, (158, Jalan Besar, Ampang) nestled tightly between shop houses, opposite main Ampang Police Station. Amiable people here who sell only poached chicken. Normal chicken halal (from supermarket), kampung chicken not slaughtered by muslims. The chicken feet in soy sauce soup offering here is yummy too.
Sin Seng Nam, an old restaurant with wooden window panels in yellow, near HSBC building in town (opposite Agro Bank), No 2, Medan Pasar, is also not too bad.
At Restaurant Jamal Mohamed, No 24, Jalan SS5A/9 PJ, the operators are Malay. Here, the steam chicken is okay, rice dismal. Allow me to digress a bit: The place also offers very, very decent CKT albeit, the lady (fondly known as aunty gemuk) should use bigger prawns and include more cockles, charge RM1 extra still manageable for ppl like us who love good food, right?
I will not diss the other eateries/restaurants I’ve tried but here’s a list of some I’ve sampled which fell short of my rating of 8 (which translates to – I will come again). The ones below are decent, and some of you may like what they serve, but they’re just not for me.
1. Coffee house at Corus Hotel
2. Restaurant Hainanese Chicken Rice at Damansara Jaya SS22/23
3. Nam Heong Chicken Rice, Petaling Street (non-halal but a few doors down, near a pet shop, the operator said he used to cook for Nam Heong for over a decade ago and opened his own chicken rice stall there and that he used halal chicken. And no sausages hanging either)
4. Chicken rice stall at Kampung Baru, located amidst a row of stalls, opposite of the stadium, near the mosque. Just ask the operators there and they will point you to the stall in question: Manned by Chinese, roasted tender chicken.
Hope this helps lieza. Cheers.

Hi Vkeong. I am elated that you’ve responded. I truly respect you and many food bloggers I’ve come across. You write so well. Hats off!
Btw Vkeong, I am always on the lookout for the very best Halal Hainanese Chicken Rice. As long as the operators sell halal chicken and there is no lard in the rice, and if the utelsils are only for the purpose of chopping up the chicken, I don’t really mind if the shop sells pork.
Do please let me know if you come across the very, very best of poached chicken rice, ya?
I am also on the look out of KL’s best CKT, Egg tarts, Dim Sum and BBQ paus, chicken pies…
If you come across any of these, do, do please let us know.
Again Vkeong, superb job maintaining this site. And I am sure I speak for all here when I say, we truly appreciate your efforts. Sincerely, thank you sir!

yes they are very stingy with their chilli. You have to pay extra for extra plate of chilli. It’s written there somewhere. One time I saw one of the lady pour the balanced chili (someone who cannot finish) into the chilli container! Aiyeh… not so ethical is it??
