Kechara Oasis: New Age Vegetarian Cuisine @ Jaya One, Petaling Jaya
Aug 12th
Kechara Oasis is a fine-dining vegetarian restaurant located in Jaya One, Petaling Jaya that serves vegetarian dishes from Chinese, Tibetan, Vietnamese and Western cuisine. Not long ago Kampungboycitygal was invited to the restaurant and we (Jason and Ivy included) got to tag along as well.
While browsing the menu I was surprised to see seafood like lobster and cod fish were available. As real as they look, they are made of mock meat – the same for the rest of the dishes shown later. Vegetarian food has never looked so good!
It’s good to know that the chefs at Kechara Oasis have been trained at Tibet before. So the Tibetan dishes can be considered quite authentic. One of the rare drinks in this world is served at Kechara Oasis, called Tibetan Butter Tea @ RM12.80.
The name itself should be quite self-explanatory – it is a drink of the Tibetans. Click here to continue reading >
Express Teppanyaki @ Food Republic, Pavilion
Aug 10th
Express Teppanyaki is located around Food Republic at Pavilion and they serve some pretty good teppanyaki. Set menus consisting of a pan fried meat, bean sprouts, vegetable, rice and soup start from RM15. After hearing some good things about them, we decided to have our lunch there one weekend.
Customers sit around the iron plate and get to enjoy watching the chefs prepare the food skillfully. Food aside, this has got to be the biggest attraction of teppanyaki.
After placing your orders, a piece of aluminum foil will be placed in front to put the meat and vegetables. Vegetable is fried first, followed by the meat and bean sprouts last.
Chicken Teppanyaki stir fried with chili flavored sauce.
And Sirloin Steak Teppanyaki – tender and bite sized meaty chunks with amazing flavor. I don’t know what type of sauce was used to fry the meat but it certainly wasn’t something normal. It was aromatic with black pepper and goes very well with rice.
Express Teppanyaki is one of the better teppanyaki I have come across that didn’t need to be in a classy Japanese restaurant. Very recommended. Price wise it’s affordable as long as no seafood is ordered.

Yong Tau Fu @ Kedai Mee Siew, Puchong Batu 14
Aug 7th
Two doors away from the renowned Puchong Yong Tau Fu at Puchong Batu 14 is another popular Yong Tau Fu restaurant, called Kedai Mee Siew and Yong Tau Fu (in Mandarin). On all the occasions that I had my dinner at Puchong Batu 14, I have always noticed a full-house crowd at Kedai Mee Siew.
That had always made me wonder what was the highly sought food. And the lack of signboard didn’t help too. Before my visit yesterday, I could only speculate that noodles was the crowd puller, which turned out to be only half correct because both noodles and Yong Tau Fu are available.
Actually our original plan was to eat at Puchong Yong Tau Fu, as it has never failed us so far. But before we reached our destination, our plan was quickly derailed. Fascinated by the number of people having their dinner at Kedai Mee Siew, we decided to give it a try instead of always eating at the same place. Click here to continue reading >
Portugese Grilled Seafood @ Oasis Food Court, Mid Valley
Aug 4th
An ordinary looking stall in an ordinary food court in Mid Valley is drawing the crowds. What seemed like an economical place to have lunch and dinner for the mall’s workers is also frequented by the customers. They make a beeline for the not-so-ordinary Portugese Grilled Seafood, which is popular for the tastiness and fair (pretty cheap I dare say) pricing.
Like any other grilled/bbq seafood you can choose to have a type of seafood only, or a combo of your liking eg. Bawal + Lala, Pari + Lala, Pari + Sotong. A set that comes with a serving of white rice is typically RM7.90. More expensive if a better fish is selected. Click here to continue reading >
