Portugese Grilled Seafood @ Oasis Food Court, Mid Valley
| Share |
An ordinary looking stall in an ordinary food court in Mid Valley is drawing the crowds. What seemed like an economical place to have lunch and dinner for the mall’s workers is also frequented by the customers. They make a beeline for the not-so-ordinary Portugese Grilled Seafood, which is popular for the tastiness and fair (pretty cheap I dare say) pricing.
Like any other grilled/bbq seafood you can choose to have a type of seafood only, or a combo of your liking eg. Bawal + Lala, Pari + Lala, Pari + Sotong. A set that comes with a serving of white rice is typically RM7.90. More expensive if a better fish is selected.
I know this (Bawal + Lala) doesn’t look too appetizing but hey, they all come looking like that. Fish takes longer to cook compared to clams, which is why I think they fried the bawal (Black Pomfret) first before grilling it. And because of that the fish had a crispier skin and more flavorful flesh too. Good stuff.
Ikan Pari (stingray) + Sotong (squid), RM7.90 too. The red hot chili paste will surely tingle the taste buds, a challenge even for those with high spicy tolerance. You will feel a fiery feeling in the stomach that grows in subsequent tastes.
But as appetizing as it is, it might not be appreciated by some for the oiliness and saltiness. The saltiness is not entirely a bad thing though. Because I believe it is not caused by excessive use of MSG or salt, but dried shrimps instead. The dried shrimps, whether you like it or not is vital for releasing the “fresh” flavor and providing some crunch and contrast.
We ordered only one set initially just for testing but decided that one was not enough, so I queued for another set lol. This time, I specifically no rice but I was charged the same price. Hmm, so rice is free?
I am quite impressed with the staff’s ability to memorize each customers’ order too, given the number of customers and orders that seemed to come non-stop. A set of grilled seafood leaves the stall every 20-30 seconds or so – do the maths and you can estimate their impressive sales figures.
If I am not mistaken the Portugese Grill is located in Oasis Food Court, 2nd or 3rd floor I couldn’t remember. Before the food court was renovated, many people didn’t like eating there because the awful oil smell tends to linger on you. After the renovation I felt the food court was pretty OK and air ventilation has improved? At least I didn’t smell like an oily kitchen when I walked out lol.

3rd Floor! Wow, I have been waiting for someone to blog about this… it really does draw the crazy crowds so even if I work in MV, I have never mustered enough patience to join the queue! My colleague sneaks out for 11AM lunch just to beat the crowd! And now I see WHY!

wow, this has been there for YEARS!!!!
glad they renovated the place, as previously very dark and uncomfy i felt.
still, the wait for the grilled items can be relentless at times, even to the extent of half an hour!

It’s like a hidden gem in Midvalley and tasted very good too. Should give the Pan Mee stall a try too, also taste good.

The food court went through some renovations! It was not like this last time.
I think I did not go there for two years.
I miss the grilled fish!

I love grilled fish, but I usually take Pari only since its easier to consume (bones). I wonder, is the sauce fixed? Or is there other varieties? I miss my uncle’s Nyonya petai grilled fish.
If RM7.90 for FISH +- RICE
I wonder if I take 2RICE + 1FISH = RM??
haha
Gonna try this the next time with Elmo.

Haha, I failed!! Haha
I thought of ordering bawal + lala and pari + petai and 3rice, just to see if they charge extra.
But upon reaching, my GF wanted to eat Kacang Botol as well, so we ended up with 2fish and 1 veg + 3rice. No extra charge, so don’t know if extra rice got charge onot. Hehe
But like you said, the Q was long. But my turn was longer and my fish aint that hot no more, because no more plate for rice, had to wait the people to send the plate, while my fishes are smelling the air already.
RM7.90 + RM7.90 + RM3.90 = RM19.70
LalaFish+PetaiPari+KacangBotol=RM19.70
But don’t know why, my pari turned into Bawal, so I got 2bawal. Lolz
Anyway, really good food, and its not really spicy, and I like the taste, very nice

A popular choice for the ppl that work there in Mid Valley. So, remember to jot down their mobile no. and book first if you want to eat there during lunch time. If not, you’ll have to wait very long. The pan mee and lui cha also not bad in Oasis.

Oasis Food Court is 2nd Floor, Mid Valley.
Ikan Bakar is the best stall there. Long wait times due to the long cooking times as well, around 10+ minutes for fish to cook.
Pan Mee – vkeong please don’t try. Trust me. Btw oasis food court does not serve pork.
Uncle Lim Fishball Noodle – underrated, but good. Springy fishball. Worth a try.

Cheaper than the two similar ones in Petaling Street!

I’ve been there once during Malay Puasa period. Reach there around 12pm, no ppl queueing but still need to wait for 15 minutes. Can’t imagine if full of queue. Ya, i agreed with Vkeong, I’m impressed with the staff which have good memorizing skill.
