Yi Xin Ge Bak Kut Teh Restaurant @ People’s Park, Petaling Jaya

Yi Xin Ge 一心阁 is a Bak Kut Teh restaurant at People’s Park, Kelana Jaya that has been around for more than 25 years. Their first outlet was initially opened at Petaling Jaya Section 14 but moved to it current location later. Business starts as early as 6.30am and it is said to be the favorite Bak Kut Teh of former Malaysian badminton legend Datuk Eddy Choong.
The founder of Yi Xin Ge is a Bak Kut Teh lover himself. After experimenting with various recipes to prepare his own Bak Kut Teh he finally came up with one good enough even to setup him own shop. The soup here is clearer, slightly sweeter with a mild herb taste – and actually a lot milder if compared to the other Bak Kut Teh shops in Klang Valley.
The sweet taste is attributed to the fact that they use a lot of yu zhu – 玉竹 (stem of Solomon’s Seal) often used for its natural sweetness in flavoring Chinese herbal soup. A hint of Ginseng taste could be detected as well.
The Bak Kut Teh comes in a bowl and I was quite surprised with the portion of meat provided for 2 pax. It had a combination of various parts like pork ribs, meat, trotter and intestines. All of these cost a little over RM20 inclusive of Chinese tea, rice and you tiao, quite a reasonable price.
My personal preference when it comes to Bak Kut Teh, is a thicker soup base with strong taste of spices that would leave your body feel heaty afterwards. Because of that Yi Xin Ge’s Bak Kut Teh did not appeal much to me. It is more recommended to those who like their Bak Kut Teh with flavor leaning more towards herb than heavy flavor.
Take away of pre-packed Bak Kut Teh herbs are also available here if you want to prepare it at home.
By the way if you like Chicken Rice, Kee Kee Bentong Chicken Rice just a few shops away is not bad too!

It’s good to know that there’s a BKT shop that open early in Klang Valley rather than the need to travel all the way to Klang for morning BKT session.

I never try any BKT at PJ and KL. Must try out when visiting there next time.
How is the taste of BKT in PJ, KL and Klang compared to the one in Penang and BM?

vkeong, you may want to try the one in Sungai Way. Sounds like it would suit your taste better.
