Geylang Lor 29 Hokkien Mee @ 396 East Coast Road
As opposed to its name, Geylang Lor 29 Fried Hokkien Mee is not in Geylang but located at East Coast Road not too far away instead. Besides being a Hokkien Mee lover, another reason I just had to give it a try was due to its reputation as one of the best Hokkien Mee in Singapore.
Although this hawker dish is available in Malaysia, it is very rare and your best bet of finding it would be at Singaporean food court chains like Food Republic at Pavilion. However, the taste is never going to be the same because the skill and experience of the chef are huge factors in the taste.
For $4 the portion is satisfying with plenty of seafood, nothing to be complained about. But the taste was rather disappointing due to the fact that it was somehow lacking if compared to the rest I have had.
This could be because the master Uncle See was not the person handling the wok but his disciple. Although the gravy was delicious enough, I found it to be a bit oily and lacked the ooomph. Perhaps the disciple’s skill is not up to the par yet.
Don’t get me wrong I am not saying the Hokkien Mee is bad or what because I did enjoy it despite the tiny complaints. The sambal was great as well. Unluckily for me I can only imagine the tastiness if the Hokkien Mee was fried by the master himself. This experience seems unlikely, since I doubt I will be going back to Singapore. But I bet the Hokkien Mee would taste better and meet my expectations.
Geylang Lor 29 Hokkien Mee can be found at Food R Us coffee shop, open daily except Mondays from 12pm-9.30pm.

Haha, bro you are definitely spoilt by choice. I’m sure the Master’s cooking will be miles ahead compare to the ‘tou dai’

sometimes very suay one, when go there, not the real chef cook, and you still need to pay the same price, wait for same long time, is just unfair .
