Ho Ho Steamboat is a chained steamboat restaurant that has 5 branches across Klang Valley, one of them in Bandar Menjalara. They have the words Pulau Ketam appended to their restaurant name because they bulk most of their seafood from the island, well at least according to the lady boss.

If you are dining as a couple then too bad there aren’t many choices for you. You would probably have to order the set meal @ RM15.50 per pax, and there is a minimum order of two. Well you could also go for ala carte but I think you would end up paying more instead.

Luckily the set meal offered is not too shabby for its price. For a two person set, it comes with two large prawns, some siakap slices, fish balls, dumplings, etc. You know the drill. The good thing is the seafood is fresh and you could really taste the difference from those served in buffet type of steamboat restaurants. But of course when you compare it to Happy City, the latter clearly wins in terms of freshness because they serve live seafood. So, you do get what you pay.

The homemade clear soup base is also tasty on its own, so it was really great after it absored all the added seafood’s flavor. Initially I was kind of skeptical about the soup, thinking they added a lot of MSG for the taste. But to our delight, it wasn’t the case, as we did not experience any thirstiness later even after we dried the entire pot of soup. Even if there was MSG, the amount used should be at its minimum.

There is a BBQ chicken wing stall outside the restaurant. A pair costs RM4.80, not cheap at all despite being quite delicious. Honestly, I had a shock when I was told about the price.

In all, if you are looking forward to an affordable and no frills steamboat meal, Ho Ho Steamboat will not disappoint. For a more elaborate alternative, I would recommend Happy City instead.
