Ever since I came to PJ to work, people have been asking if I have tried the famous Bak Kut Teh in PJ Old Town that only opens at for dinner and supper. And if I answered “no” then they would ask “why not?” Now that I have finally tasted Heng Kee I can understand the reason, it is simply because they are good!

By the way this is the third Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh I have posted so far if you haven’t noticed. The first one I posted is at Bandar Menjalara while the other one is at Taman Kepong. Last time I used to prefer Bak Kut Teh with thick and dark broth, those that have really strong herb taste. But nowadays I am favoring the lighter and sweet version more and more, just like the one served in any Heng Kee you would find. I find their style is more or less the same despite the owners claiming they are all unrelated. *shrugs*

While this Heng Kee might not have the best tasting broth, their Yau Char Kwai and golden needle mushroom are one notch better. Another thing I like about them is that they separate the mushroom, tofu pok and meat in individual bowls. I welcome this move because I have always had this nagging feeling that the mushrooms and tofu pok would introduce foreign tastes into the soup and ultimately affecting the flavor.

Now, before you jump the gun and tell me there are better Bak Kut Teh in Klang, just let me say that I am rating Heng Kee by comparing it with the rest in PJ. And my conclusion is that they are indeed one of the better ones. Yup, even better than both the overrated Ah Sang and Xhin Fong at Sungai Way in my opinion. You are free to disagree with me on this because there is no universal yardstick when it comes to taste. We all have unique taste buds and I am just glad I found a Bak Kut Teh that I like.
