Lucky Hong Kong Dessert (發記甜品) @ Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara
In less than 10 days I will be going to Hong Kong for a 5-day trip. While planning for the itinerary, Lucky Dessert fell into the radar of the dessert shop we have shortlisted to try. Then I suddenly remembered that this Lucky Dessert actually has a branch in Malaysia at Sunway Giza Mall. During their grand opening last year I was invited to sample their desserts and give my comments. However, due to my ‘no invitational meals’ policy I gave that a miss. And since Lucky Dessert already has a branch here I guess there’s no point going all the way to Hong Kong for it right? For me, in case they are good then I might want to try the original thing in Hong Kong for comparison sake. Else I will just cross them off my list.
When you glance through the menu you will find the desserts here are not THAT expensive compared to My Honeymoon or Tim Pun Gor Gor. But when you see the desserts’ portion you will feel the price is actually just standard – maybe even more expensive than its peers. For example a portion of Mango Roll (芒果糯米卷) has two small slices priced at RM6 as opposed to My Honeymoon’s RM9 for almost double the portion. Worst still, the mango used for the dessert was not sweet and didn’t even have any mango flavor to begin with.
RM5 for a piece of Durian Wrapz (榴莲班戈), tastes OK but seriously? I’d rather buy an actual durian instead.
At least the Banana Krisp (焗香蕉酥皮卷) @ RM12 is something new and refreshing, worth trying just for the thin crust alone.
The Trinity Durian Delight (榴莲飘香) @ RM10 is my favorite among all, it has the right consistency and the right level of sweetness counter balanced by the bitterness of pomelo sacs. But of course what makes the difference is the small chunks of durian flesh in the dessert. If you are a durian lover I am pretty sure you will like this simple but delicious dessert. With all that being said my only gripe with it is the miserable amount of durian, like only a spoonful at most with all combined?
All the above cost RM36.30 which includes 10% service charge. I don’t know about you but I find it really not worth the money. So if you are here, please do yourself a favor and just get their promotion meals priced at RM16.80 for 2 pax or RM8.90 for 1 person. Trust me they are bigger bang for your buck because you get to eat more than what I have shown above for only half the price. As for their Hong Kong branches, I think I will just skip them unless I really run out of things to try. Kinda unlikely if you ask me.

Hi,
By the way one suggestion for your blog followers who plan to visit Lucky Dessert. If you are a durian lover but decided to try items made out of other fruits as well, you should try the rest before eating durian as durian aroma and flavour is quite strong, after eating durian the rest of the desserts will be tasteless to you.
Some people may think that our desserts taste quite plain due to this reason
Thanks & Regards,
Ms Suan
