Kari Ayam Raub @ Restoran Ratha, Raub
It is quite impossible to miss Ratha Curry House in Raub thanks to its strategic location. You don’t even have to look for it because the restaurant presents itself right smack at the junction leading in and out of the town centre.
Restoran Ratha is inarguably the most famous in town where you will find tourists and locals alike flocking to enjoy a variety of curry dishes, especially their signature Fish Head Curry. I was initially quite skeptical about the watery looking curry but after tasting it I could understand why they are so popular. However, we did not order the Fish Head Curry because there were only two of us and we would not had been able to finish it.
Among the three dishes we sampled, I think the Chicken Curry was the best. Most curries I have had at other places usually are pretty mild in term of spiciness but here at Ratha, there is nothing deceptive about the red fiery gravy and you could expect it to be tongue-tingling hot. The curry tastes quite unique as well since they developed their own curry paste. Both of us like it a lot and I found myself drinking the gravy like soup!
Their Fried Chicken is equally famous, which I found to be quite good but nothing against the best we could find in KL. Mainly because I still prefer my fried chicken to taste crunchy crust.
The Squid Curry was prepared in a thick gravy with a more concentrated spice, better worth trying than the fried chicken in my opinion. I could imagine it would do very well as additional topping for nasi lemak.
Overall it was a pleasant meal and I would not hesitate to return if I ever find myself at Raub again. When that time comes, I will surely get their Fish Head Curry.

B prepared to drink lotsa water after having their famous fish head curry. The effect of the msg starts kicking in after a mere 20 minutes! I was there just few days back and also, the price of their mediocre fried chicken is unbelievable @ RM 4.70 per pc! Once is enough!

Hi Vkeong, talking about chicken, it seems that you have not covered a good claypot chicken rice for a long time. I just tried this Heun Kee at Pudu, and I think you should give it a try. They use charcoal to cook, and a unique ’2 heat’ system. Give it a try.
