Bangkok has a lot of seafood restaurants and Laem Cha Reon is one of the popular ones frequented by both locals and tourists alike. Being a chained restaurant, you could find Laem Cha Reon branches in most of the major shopping malls like Siam Paragon and Central World. They have a friendly menu with English and Chinese translation too so it is very convenient to order food here – especially for tourists like us who can’t comprehend Thai.

Fried-Fish-in-Fish-Sauce

Just to play safe, most of the dishes we had are the recommended ones in the menu. Moreover, the locals are having them as well so I feel we should have done fine. Deep Fried Marinated Snapper with Sweet Fish Sauce @ 420THB is a specialty here and has received raving reviews from whoever has tried it. If you don’t mind the tad saltiness of the fish sauce, it is quite delicious alright (fresh, crispy and not oily at all) but not mind-blowingly good. For those looking for an extra kick, there is another similar version of this dish using the same fish but topped with loads of garlic and chillis.


River-Prawn

Grilled River Prawns @ 120THB/100gm, which we dare not order more because of its price. While the two of us had to share one prawn (huge though, almost as big as a lobster) others were seen enjoying at least one for their own. The river prawn was superbly fresh and we thought it was best eaten without any condiments so to fully enjoy the sweetness of the firm and succulent flesh.

Steamed-River-Prawn

Full of roe underneath the prawn head, those did not go to waste at all.

Butter-Scallops

Baked Scallop with Butter Sauce – very fresh as well but the butter sauce was too salty and overpowering in taste.

Bloody-Cockles

Steamed Blood Cockles with Chili and Peanut dip – great stuff. But if you can’t stand the raw, bloody taste then this is not for you.

Laem-Cha-Reon-Siam-Square

Overall it was a good meal considering everything we had was fresh, reasonably priced and tasted fairly good, kind of unexpected of a retaurant within a shopping mall if you ask me. Anyway, from what I heard the restaurants (no matter which branch) are usually packed especially during the weekends so queuing and waiting are expected.
