Ril’s Steakhouse @ The Warehouse, Jalan Tun H S Lee

Based on my two visits to Ril’s Steakhouse, my conclusion is that the food coming out of Ril’s kitchen is just consistently inconsistent. And no, I am not going to sink any more money into this place when there are better alternatives in town. It almost feels like you are taking a gamble just to eat here, it might be good or bad – you will never know.

Rib-Eye

Anyway, we actually had this meal at The Warehouse even before our visit to their Bangsar branch. Remember when I said I seem to have bad luck with steaks? Well my Wagyu Rib-Eye @ RM168 is overcooked no where close to medium rare (and at Bangsar branch as well) while my wife’s Rib-Eye was perfect. Couldn’t they at least get the more expensive meat done right?
I would have been more forgiving if Ril’s is a normal Western food restaurant, but the fact is that they are a premium restaurant specializing in steaks and their main starts at RM76 the cheapest! And let’s not forget again they advertise themselves as the best steak restaurant in KL too. So it is just simply disappointing to be served dry and chewy meat amidst all the hype and expectation.

Tiga-Rasa-Scallops

If you must eat here, skip the acclaimed Tiga Rasa Scallops @ RM28 and go for the Lobster Bisque which I find more appealing for the same price. The scallops are nothing but fancy and over-seasoned shellfish served on big spoons. It is a pity because the scallops are big and fresh on their own, too bad the three different sauces overpowered their natural sweetness.

Verdict? The steaks are absolutely delicious when perfectly cooked according to your preferences. But from my personal experience that does not seem to be the case so far. Try only if you are feeling lucky, else there are always other places more deserving of your hard-earned money like Angus House or Opus.

  2. It’s a pity you had to experience this when they aren’t cheap at all. Better luck next time.. Go to Suzi’s corner for cheaper steaks. I had mine that was okay not long ago.

  3. I never had any luck in my 3 times of dining at Ril’s. Friends say I am critical while some think I am just plain unlucky with them.

I’m really sorry for your experience, they are definitely over rated.

The scallops looked pretty small for the amount that you had to pay. Have passed by this particular restaurant a few times, but I guess located near the heart of Chinatown, it wouldn’t harm slapping a tag “The Best Steak in Town” to attract the tourists visiting the area.
