Wondermama Restaurant & Cafe @ Bangsar Village 1

As a Nyonya Laksa lover I am glad I found out about Wondermama at Bangsar Village 1. Theirs are definitely one of the better and authentic ones you could find in the city. But be prepared to fork out cafe price for this hawker dish because Wondermama is sort of like a high class mamak, situated in a mall where the wealthy shop.

Wondermama-Bangsar

The al fresco area is covered and there are plenty of plants around to provide shade. Don’t forget to look up while you are here.

Nyonya-Laksa

D&L Laksa @ RM13.90 – The D&L refers to Donald & Lily, a famous eatery in Melaka. I am not sure if it tastes exactly the same like D&L’s because I have never been there. Anyway, the fragrant and milky broth contains all the necessaries like hard boiled egg, peeled prawn, fish cakes, fresh cockles, cucumber and laksa leaves.
It was nothing short of delicious and should be great to satiate your cravings for Nyoyna Laksa. However, just for the sake of record, Calanthe Art Cafe‘s rendition of the same and the famous Katong Laksa in Singapore are still the unbeatable ones in my book.

Seafood-Maggi-Mee-Goreng

Special Seafood Maggi Mee Goreng (scallop, prawn, squid) @ RM14.90 – it tastes nothing like the maggi goreng you get at mamak shops and I doubt any curry seasoning from the sachet is used at all. Well, that is not really a bad thing since WM’s homemade sauce is not too shabby either. You wouldn’t want ALL the maggi goreng in the world to have the same generic taste, now would you? The noodle gets a little oily at the bottom, so do give it a good toss before digging in.

3-Layer-Drinks

Some 3-layer drinks, pretty normal stuff if you ask me. The sweetness is toned way down compared to the others out there. Or maybe they are just being stingy with the Gula Melaka? I wouldn’t know anyhow.

Ice-Cream-with-Beef-Bacon

WM’s Chocolate Ice Cream with Beef Bacon sounds like a weird combination but it works, otherwise it won’t make it into the menu right? Salty, sweet, chewy, soft, cool, smooth and creamy – all these textures, flavours and sensation are contradicting yet complimenting each other in a cup. Actually I wouldn’t have ordered this if the Durian Crepe was available.

Even if fusion food is not your cup of tea, Wondermama is well worth a visit just for the interior alone.
