Viva Garden Serviced Residence @ Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok

Of the thousands of hotels to choose from in Bangkok, we picked Viva Garden Serviced Residence and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. The main reason we booked Viva Garden was because of its excellent reviews we read at various hotel booking sites online. After 4 nights of pleasant stay here – we could not help but give a mirrored review as well.

You should have known by the name that Viva Garden is a serviced apartment rather than a conventional hotel. So besides a more spacious layout, you could expect more amnesties equipped in each studio room too. One important thing to note about Viva Garden is its location. Since it is situated near Bang Chak station along the Sukhumvit line (10 stops from Siam station) this property might not appeal to those who wish to stay near the city and shopping areas. But we did not really mind this because the BTS ride to the city centre takes only around half an hour, max.

We booked the Studio Superior room which cost 2,100 THB per night. Breakfast was excluded by choice because we wanted to eat out during our trip. The ambiance is homey, inviting and most importantly clean, it certainly felt as though we were staying at someone else’s home. It has everything you need and maybe more. The large fridge really comes in handy for us to store drinks and fruits bought from the street vendors and 7-11 across the road.

Bedroom

The kitchen is fully functional and is equipped with an instant hot water dispenser, cutlery, crockery, utensils and cloths for cleaning purposes. We only used it to make coffee/tea and instant noodles but I guess it will serve a better purpose for families especially those traveling with children.

LCD-TV

A wall-mounted LCD TV with international channels. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was showing during our stay and we stayed up watching the movies every night after a tiring day touring the city. Can’t say we did not enjoy ourselves.

Bangkok-View

Each room has a spacious balcony and you are presented with an unobstructed view of Bangkok. See that skytrain station? That is the Bang Chak station, it is only minutes walking distance away from the hotel. Besides the street vendors and convenience shops I mentioned earlier, there are a couple of restaurants and a morning market where you could see the real Bangkok way of life.

Shower

Bath-Tub

OK the bathroom is seriously huge – even with a big bath tub it has more space than we need, awesome. Shower is strong and water heater worked very well for us, those are what we really look for in a hotel so no complaints here.

Now about the staff. I have stayed in numerous hotels and hostels around the world and I have to say Viva Garden’s staff is among the best I have ever encountered. Thailand is not called “Land of Smiles” for nothing, as they are genuinely warm and helpful and will go all the way out to help you. I am not saying that just because that is the generic thing to say when complimenting, but because the staff really helped us in our itinerary and even called their own families and friends to answer the questions they do not know the answer to.
We also got our taxis sorted out here (getting to airport and visiting the floating markets) at a very reasonable price without having to go through the language barrier issues because they spoke on our behalf. Overall, Viva Garden is a highly recommended hotel based on our personal experience and has since became our yardstick by which all hotels will be judged upon.
