Seafood restaurants are abundant in Langkawi and mostly concentrated at Kuah town. Those near to the duty free shopping complexes are awfully packed with tourists during dinner time and the last time we had our meal here, it took them 45 minutes to serve us.

This time we tried a more non-touristy restaurant called Teo Seafood, a place where the locals would actually eat at.

Teochew-Steamed-Garoupa

Teochew style Steamed Garoupa (600gm @ RM42) – which translates to about RM7/100gm. Price wise it is on par with those KL restaurants so I cannot really say it’s cheap. But at least the fish was fresh and it was nicely done. The spicy and sour flavor is well balanced and really opened up the appetite for the dishes that followed later.

Salad-Crullers

Stuffed ‘You Tiao’ is one of their signature dishes. For RM6 you get two sesame-topped Chinese crullers stuffed with minced meat, deep fried and then drizzled with thin trails of sweet mayonnaise. Simple, crunchy and delicious.

Fried-Oysters

Fried Oysters @ RM10 – very reasonably priced for a big portion like this. Taste wise it was better than most versions I had elsewhere and the oysters are big, fresh too.

Tiger-Prawns

We expected the tiger prawns to be those regular sized but as it turned out they were gigantic. So it wasn’t surprising to know the Butter Prawns cost us RM81 (2 palm sized prawns, each halved) The staff wasn’t kidding when he said two person could share a prawn. The flesh is dense, almost lobster like and the prawn head is full of savory roe. It was definitely a rare enjoyable treat for us, albeit pricey.

Roast-Duck

The Pi Pa Duck @ RM14 here is also famous but I wouldn’t recommend it because it is far inferior compared to what we could get in KL. All in all we enjoyed most of the food we had here especially the seafood. I can’t say the same for poultry and vegetable dishes though because they are just average at best.

Teo-Seafood-Langkawi

Likes: Good seafood and reasonably priced, doesn’t feel shortchanged by paying tourist price. Many parking spots
Dislikes: Nothing much really, just avoid the overrated roast duck

Good to know that the food is cheap, when I was there earlier this year, it’s pretty difficult to find a nice place for dinner, now there’s somewhere to eat when I’m heading there again next year.
