Power Over Cervical Cancer: Let’s Fight Cervical Cancer
Oct 7th
Let’s not talk about food for a moment and talk about cancer. I know this has completely nothing to do with my blog’s theme but when I was approached to support the POCC (Power Over Cervical Cancer) campaign, I did not hesitate and agreed.
As a son (to a mother), a brother (to a sister), a friend and also a future husband to my future wife, I don’t think this is something that should not only concern women. It is everyone’s responsibility.
So just a brief info first, POCC is initiated by the National Cancer of Society of Malaysia and is supported by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The ultimate objective of this campaign to educate and sustain awareness on cervical cancer.
The nationwide ‘Fight Cervical Cancer in Style Best Friends Forever (BFF) Campaign’ encourages everyone to reach out to their best friends – women they care about – to spread the message of protection and reduce their risk of cervical cancer. At the enhanced POCC website and Facebook Page photo pledges and sharing of stories can be made, as initiatives for Malaysians to come together to fight this cancer.
The House of Dancing Water @ City of Dreams, Macau
Sep 22nd
As you all might have known from my previous post, the House of Dancing Water is finally open to the world after 5 years of development and HK$2 billion spent to create and produce. I was lucky enough to attend the media launch even before the world premiere last week, which was an unforgettable experience.
And now I will share with you some facts about the show, hopefully they are interesting enough to make you feel like going to Macau to experience the largest and most spectacular water-based show on earth.
This uniquely created show, housed in a purpose-built theater designed with multiple breakthroughs including a stage pool that is able to hold a record breaking 3.7 million gallons water (equivalent to 5 Olympic-sized swimming pools) is located at City of Dreams, Macau. By employing the latest technology, the aquatic stage could be converted into a solid floor in a matter of seconds using 11 ten-ton elevators.
Franco Dragone, a creative genius from Belgium whose shows have been seen by over 65 million people worldwide is the mastermind behind the show. The state-of-the-art theater (click for the full image) is basically divided into four zones, with tickets priced at HK$1,280, $880, $680 and $380 respectively.
The House of Dancing Water Official Media Launch @ City of Dreams, Macau
Sep 18th
Hi guys, I just came back from Macau two days ago from the official media launch of the House of Dancing Water at City of Dreams. Thanks to the nice people at Fleishman Hillard, I was one of the three media (the other two being TheStar and Nuyou) from Malaysia to be invited to this event. It was definitely an eye opening experience and I had lots of fun.
FYI the House of Dancing Water is the world’s largest and most spectacular water extravaganza costing HKD 2 billion+ (USD 250 million) This production is the brainchild of Mr. Lawrence Ho and personally created and directed by Mr. Franco Dragone, one of the world’s greatest show maker.
I will write briefly about my three days spent in Macau and also show some photos from the show, then followed by a more detailed one later.
City of Dreams is located along the Cotai strip sitting on the Cotai reclamation area in Macau. The name ‘Cotai’ comes from the fact that it sits between Taipa Island and Coloane Island. Convenient naming eh?
Anyway, City of Dreams is constructed in the style of a podium with four towers: Hard Rock Hotel, Crown Towers Hotel and the Grand Hyatt Macau, it also has three casinos, lots of restaurants and high-end retail shops for the jet setting shoppers.
City of Dream’s design is heavily influenced by water, a huge reason why the concept of a ‘Dancing Water Theater’ was born. And if you notice, the walls have a shape of water ripple. For the Chinese, water is an important element especially when it comes to Feng Shui.
For the first night I was staying at the Grand Hyatt Macau. Seriously, I didn’t expect to stay in such a nice hotel, must have been my lucky day.

2. OngQH, winning entry:
Guess I’m the first few to comment. So, here goes.
I would like to win the Japanese dinner buffet because I absolutely love the dishes served at Munakata, especially the sashimi and sushi. The Salmon sashimi slices are cut so precisely and the fish is so fresh that since my first visit I’ve always wanted to go again. The best sashimi I’ve tried in KL!
The second best thing there would be the unagi which is grilled just nice. Other dishes such as the grilled beef, chawan mushi, tempura and fried oyster make me hungry just by thinking about it. After a hearty meal, I would like to end it with a green tea ice cream.
I’d have been to other buffets, Shogun, Jogoya, Yaki-yaki and few other. But Munakata certainly beats all of them, although only 40 dishes served, but the quality of its food is the best I’ve ever tasted.
So, please do pick me. I’m a student in KL and I’ll be graduating in June. Certainly would like to bring my girlfriend to Munakata once before I leave.
Thanks.
2. Chin Ga Mei, winning entry (lucky draw):
Dear Vkeong,
I would really love to win the Japanese Dinner Buffet at Munakata because
1. I’d never eaten pure Japanese buffet before. Like Jogoya offers other type or cuisine too. And in my opinion Jogoya SUCKS !!! They have a lot of choices but then the food are just not up to standard.
2. I would really really really like to try the fresh, thick sliced salmon with marbled fats that I saw in Vkeong’s blog! So tempting !!! * slurpssss* and also my ultimate favourite unagi !!! Since Munakata is managed by Japanese, and it’s been surviving in KL for such a long time, I bet the food must be really good to maintain regular customers as well as to attract new customers.
3. I can’t believe that my boyfriend who is just working at Shangri-La KL ( opposite Munakata only) had never tried Munakata before! I really wish to dine with him at Munakata if I get to win this. I want to show him that Munakata can be as awesome as Zipangu too! In fact, more value for money and with unlimited order!
4. I can’t really afford to eat at Munakata eventhough I really wish to because I’m still a student ( limited pocket money ) =( I’m ashamed to say this but I’d never been to Munakata before =(
And lastly…
5. I want to have my LAST great food feast at Munakata before I officially start my diet plan XD ( which I wanted to start ages ago but never succeed)
Really hope that you pick me! Arigato!
In conjunction with my blog finally achieving 1000 feed subscribers, I have managed to persuade Munakata to give away free Japanese dinner buffets to three lucky couples worth RM140+ each. Thank you for your immense support and this is the least I can do to show my appreciation. Two couples will be selected by Munakata Japanese Restaurant based on the most appealing comments, while I will be selecting one randomly (lucky draw). Please note Munakata is a PORK FREE restaurant.
The rules are simple:
-
1. Submit a comment on why you want to win the Japanese Dinner buffet at Munakata in this post. Or a simple comment if you’re aiming for the lucky draw.
-
2. Two winners will be picked by Munakata’s management team. And they are allowed to bring one companion to the dinner buffet.
-
3. Contest will run until 1 May 2010. Winners shall be decided by 8 May 2010.
-
4. Contest is open only for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur people only, as the restaurant is located at KL.
-
5. Good luck and have fun!
p/s: Please make sure you enter your name and email address correctly in the comment. Else, I wouldn’t be able to contact you.
