BBQ Pork / Roasted Meat

Specialty Noodles & Roast Pork @ Restaurant Kuala Lipis Noodle, Sunway Mas PJ

Kuala Lipis Noodle is the latest restaurant to open at Sunway Mas, PJ. It is a family business and their specialties are none other than their self-made specialty noodle, roast pork and char siew.

minced-meat-noodle

The dark minced meat specialty noodle @ RM4 is nothing like I have eaten before. It looks like a thicker version of laksa noodle but it feels more dense, doesn’t break off easily hence the more ‘Q’ texture. More importantly, it is free of preservatives, no additives and no funny alkaline taste – just a plain good ol’ noodle. The non pretentious minced meat topping has a strong flavor with a hint of sweetness, which emits an inviting aroma when it is still hot.

Restoran LYJ (李雄记酒家) @ Kampung Baru, Sungai Buloh

With its fair share of celebrities customers local and oversea alike, Restoran LYJ can be considered as the most successful restaurant in Sungai Buloh. The head chef of LYJ has numerous culinary awards under his belt and he is proud to showcase them by plastering them all over the restaurant.
Pun Choy, a traditional village dish originating from Hong Kong can be found here too. But this post is not about the somewhat overrated and expensive Pun Choy. Instead, lets take a look at the other dishes they have that are more appealing especially in terms of price.

standing-roast-chicken

Standing Roast Chicken (Dong Duk Gai) @ RM38. This chicken is meant for you to rip it into pieces using your hands like a barbarian then eat it without using any utensils. Good thing is they provide plastic gloves so your hands would still be clean and oil free later.
But for those who still insist on being polite and eat it using chopsticks or fork and spoon, you are really missing a lot of fun and satisfaction here. As for the chicken, don’t expect too much because it is nothing spectacular and tastes quite dry actually. The main selling point is just because it comes standing, that’s all.

Toast & Roast Hakka Mee & Char Siew @ SS2

I know Toast & Roast has been blogged to death. But surprisingly there are still quite a number of people (even PJ-ians) who are not aware of this small eatery located in the quiet neighborhood behind Tropicana City Mall. It is easy to drive past this row of shops and pass them as normal houses because they are quite hidden from view. And those whom I have brought here have been hooked on the Hakka Mee and Char Siew since.

hakka-mee

The good thing about Toast & Roast is the affordable price. They are basically charging the same price as any hawkers out there and the environment is better too being cleaner and not stuffy. A small bowl of Hakka Mee here is RM4.50 may it be topped with minced meat or char siew. Although they are generous with the toppings (minced meat/char siew/lard) the noodles’ portion is still quite small. So I usually order the large one at RM5.50 as shown here. For the extra portion of noodles given, the RM1 is worth spending.

World Famous Roast Duck – Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant @ Bayswater, London

Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant is world-famous for their roast duck and you probably already knew this because they have branches in Malaysia as well. And if you have tried their roast ducks either at Caps Square or Empire Gallery Subang I think you would agree with me that they are far from being the world’s best.
My first taste of their roast duck was a few years ago at their Caps Square branch and I never bothered to return (nor blog about it), as I feel they were overrated and pricier than the rest. But honestly, I have to say the Four Seasons at London is so much better – so much better that the Malaysian branches do not do justification to Four Seasons’ fame and reputation. What a shame, really. It’s like nasi lemak in Malaysia won’t taste the same in London too. So safe to say, you need to try the Four Seasons in London in order to appreciate the authentic taste of their roast duck.

roast-duck-rice

Roasted Duck Drumstick Rice @ 6GBP – my most comforting meal I was in London because I missed Chinese food (and rice) badly. For that price it could probably buy you a fish and chips at a local pub, or maybe a kebab so I guess the price is justified. Plus, the duck used by Four Seasons is from Ireland and is visibly meatier, easily double the portion of what we would usually get here. It was very delicious, not without faults tough, as I felt the sauce tasted too sweet.
