Awesome American Cheeseburger @ The Pink Sage, Solaris Dutamas
Oct 17th
Let me share with you my favorite restaurant for traditional Americen Cheeseburger – The Pink Sage Diner & Pantry at Solaris Dutamas, KL. Compared with the most commonly available cheeseburgers may it be at McDonalds or Chili’s, The Pink Sage’s cheeseburger is just a few classes above, no fight lah.
I highly recommend the Cheeseburger Deluxe @ RM22, just a few bucks more expensive than the normal version but comes with a patty almost double the weight (300g) All cheeseburgers at The Pink Sage comes with a coleslaw (now infused with wasabi, so it’s either you love it or hate it) and fries.
Just look at that baby, seriously mouth watering with all the melted cheese and fresh, crunchy lettuce and tomato. And check out the patty’s thickness too, even thicker than the bun.. oh my. Also, most cheeseburgers I had tasted pretty dry so they needed mayo, chili sauce or ketchup but this one here is already juicy and overflowing with flavor.
Betty’s Midwest Kitchen – America On A Plate! @ Aman Suria Damansara
Apr 22nd
Not long ago I popped into Petaling Jaya for the weekend to meet up with my friend who stays at Aman Suria. Not far away from his house (walking distance in fact) is Betty’s Midwest Kitchen, a restaurant serving American styled food specializing in Midwest cuisine ranging from soups, sandwiches, to pork chops and burgers.
I didn’t know about Betty’s because it was only opened about 6 months ago and I was at Singapore all the while. But I am quite surprised with the popularity it managed to achieve in such a short period. I believe the bloggers who shared their dining experience at Betty’s is a contributing factor.
Jucy Lucy is a hamburger that uses a grilled pattie consisting of both beef and pork. Hidden within the thick patty is a melted cheese core that flows out if you cut it early. But it is recommended to leave the hamburger to rest and cool down for a while even after it has been served to to avoid burning your tongue.
Jucy Lucy is priced at RM13.50 and it comes with a substantial amount of fries. While the hamburger’s name suggests a juicy experience, it was rather quite the opposite. I felt the patty was a little too dry for my liking and it didn’t hold up together really well. A crumbling patty in a burger makes it difficult to enjoy or even eaten properly.
But luckily they provide fork and spoon so it didn’t turn out to be a big mess. That aside, the seasoning was well done and the overall flavor could be a pleasant surprise for people who are trying it for the first time. It has this refreshing taste, which I believe comes from one of the leafy ingredients present in the meat patty.
Homemade Beef Burger @ Smok’inn Frogz Kitchen
Mar 5th
Smok’inn Frogz Kitchen is said to serve one of the best homemade beef burgers in Singapore – a piece of information I sourced from various Singaporean food blogs. With that kind of reputation, it would be hard to go wrong I guess. So a friend and I embarked on an one-and-a-half hour long journey via MRT and bus to Bukit Timah Road just for a taste of the burger’s awesomeness.
Little did I expect that Smok’inn Frogz Kitchen is smacked right in the middle of a neighborhood in a coffee shop called Bar Bar Black Sheep (which is more like a bar actually) It also shares the space with two other food stalls that I didn’t care to know lol. Good thing al fresco dining is available because the indoor seats felt stuffy and smoky from the cooking in the kitchens nearby.
There are a few types of burger (beef and chicken) on the menu and among them are Mushroom Swiss Burger and their Homemade BBQ Beef Burger, both priced at $12. My friend had the Mushroom Swiss Burger that arrived with some fries and salad.
