Dim Sum
Axian Dim Sum @ Bandar Puteri Puchong
Jul 26th
*** NOTICE: Issues like drop in food quality, cold dim sum and arrogant service reported by many. This review might not be accurate anymore ***
Axian, with a couple of partners have opened a dim sum restaurant in Bandar Puteri Puchong. If you don’t know who the guy is, he is the popular host Jason Yeoh, the host of Taste With Jason 阿贤人情味, a show promoting Malaysian food. You probably seen him before on Astro AEC, or on advertisements of products (mostly health) he is a spokesperson of.
Since I stay so near to Bandar Puteri Puchong and it has been a while since I last had my meal there, I decided to give his dim sum a try last weekend. FYI this was my second visit.
Actually I knew about Axian Dim Sum restaurant from my friend, who read about it on Axian’s very own food blog. I have tried many of the fried stuff on my first visit so I only had steamed items mostly this time around. If you are wondering, the egg tarts and fried siau pao were good stuff.
The steamed dim sum at Axian’s Dim Sum is generally good but comes with a more expensive price @ RM4.50 each. It is the most expensive dim sum restaurant around in Puchong for its category, about RM1 to Rm1.50 more expensive than the counterparts. Click here to continue reading >
Canton-i @ Sunway Pyramid, Truly Hong Kong?
Jul 8th
Let me start by saying the only reason I visited Canton-i was to avoid feeling left out. I have been hesitant to try Canton-i because I realize they are under the same management with Dragon-i. For me, this spells discouragement because my experience with Dragon-i in the past was pretty bad. I wasn’t completely hopeless anyway seeing that Canton-i had a different menu, it could be a different breed compared to Dragon-i.
That wet towel, is RM1 each.
港式奶茶 (Hong Kong Tea & Milk), RM5.50.
Canton-i’s Signature Egg Tarts were highly acclaimed by some who tried it before so I ordered it too. Too bad it was not good for me, the pastry was not crispy at all and they felt like they had been on the shelf for too long. The only good thing about the egg tarts was the relatively cheap price compared to the rest of the menu, RM5 for three. Click here to continue reading >
Spring Garden KLCC 50% Dim Sum & Dessert Promotion
Jun 17th
Spring Garden Chinese Restaurant in KLCC is one of the restaurant under Tai Thong Group Of Restaurants. One afternoon I saw a flyer advertising their latest promotion, which was 50% discount on selected dim sum and tong sui from 3pm-5pm.
I was immediately attracted to the promotion and went to take a look at the restaurant. It was lunchtime on a Saturday and the restaurant appeared empty. But when I returned two hours later it was full! I guess everyone was waiting for 3pm to have a late lunch or tea break lol.
We requested for the promotional menu and felt disappointed discovering the items on the 50% discount list were.. how do I put it.. ‘cheap’ ones lol. The ala-carte menu was no doubt more extensive and premium looking, same for the prices too. Luckily we were in just for a tea break. But hey it’s dim sum at KLCC so I think we can’t complain much about the price for the location and ambiance you get.
The Stir-Fried Radish Cake with Bean Sprouts @ RM8.50 was not bad at all although it looked a little underfried, because the wok hei was present. I would have enjoyed it more only if the radish cake was cut into smaller cubes before being stir fried. Smaller cubes = more flavor in each bite.
Deep Fried Shrimp Rolls with Mango @ RM9.50. A hint of sweet mango lifted the dish a little. Click here to continue reading >
Foh San Dim Sum Restaurant @ Ipoh
May 19th
I only have three words to describe Foh San Dim Sum Restaurant: ‘so damn crowded‘. This is not a complaint ok, just an observation.
Customers queuing outside the restaurant for dim sum before 8am.
The chaos inside the restaurant. Number of customers standing could easily match those being seated. Your seat hogging skills have to be very good to ‘survive’ in here lol. I even saw an uncle hoggingreserving a whole table for his not-yet-arrived-big-family. So, being thick faced is the other requirement.
Look at how the customers were staring at the tables lol. They were hoping for you to finish ASAP and just get up from the table and leave. It was a really unpleasant experience with so many pairs of eyes looking over your shoulder while you eat with their hearts thinking “Oi, faster finish and go away la. Wah still take photos ah? Wah lao once not enough, take twice somemore! Never see dim sum before meh? Wah wah wahhh” lol.
So, no matter how good the dim sum, for me it’s pretty pointless. Because how on earth are you going to enjoy it? Click here to continue reading >
