Dim Sum
Gai Wo Bao @ Clan Dim Sum Restaurant, Sri Petaling
May 2nd
Hi guys do you notice something new on my blog’s sidebar? There’s a list of food I have yet to blog about, which has been accumulating since last year lol. A rough estimate would be 50 posts, and that number excludes my travel related posts to Melaka, Cameron Highlands and Sabah omg.
Based on my current update frequency, the backlog of posts would take at least 5 months to clear lol. Anyway, I was at Clan Restaurant, Sri Petaling many months ago to try their famous Gai Wo Bao, which translates to ‘Chicken Nest Bun’.
I have tried Gai Wo Bao in the other dim sum restaurants nearby and found it to be so-so only. And since it is said that Clan Restaurant is the originator of this bun’s recipe, I had pretty high expectations. In fact, the main reason I went to Clan Restaurant was to try the Gai Wo Bao only. Ful Lai Dim Sum Restaurant @ Bandar Sri Manjalara, Kepong
Apr 1st
Wow, it’s been a long time since I last blogged about dim sum. This time, we are going to take a look at Ful Lai Dim Sum Restaurant in Bandar Manjalara, Kepong.
Actually, my first visit to Ful Lai was a midnight about a year ago (you know the sudden crave for steaming hot dim sum in the middle of the night right? lol) but my clumsy fingers accidentally erased the whole memory card along with some other nice food photos, sigh. Since we found the dim sum to be quite tasty, we returned for another try.
Sadly though, we found the dim sum not as nice as the ones we tried the first time. Maybe the midnight hunger does trick your mind into believing that the food taste better haha. The Siu Mai didn’t really taste nor even look like Siu Mai.. more like meat balls to be honest.
Kam Hin Dim Sum Restaurant @ Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park
Dec 24th
Kam Hin Restaurant at Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park serves very good dim sum and it is packed to the max during weekends. Needless to say, it is already a well known dim sum restaurant in KL.
Actually I didn’t know I was going to visit [tag]Kam Hin[/tag] when I first came here. Because, the person who recommended me this restaurant forgot its name and only recalls the direction to it. Luckily the restaurant’s location is pretty strategic so it was no sweat looking for it.
The variety of [tag]dim sum[/tag] available at Kam Hin is a lot and even though I have been here a couple of times, I still couldn’t manage to try every of it. Starting off with the most expensive dim sum I ever had so far (yes, it’s even more expensive than the one I had at Eden) – Deep Fried Yam Paste Stuffed with Prawn @ RM8.
Again, I didn’t check the price first before I took it from the fried dim sum station. And to be honest, it certainly didn’t look like it was going to cost RM8, did it? LOL. Nevermind the price, it was deliciously crunchy on the outside and the prawns were fresh. Good stuff. Because of the yam paste, having a few of these will already make you full.
Another fried dim sum that cost RM8 (didn’t check again) – Deep Fried Yam Paste Stuffed with BBQ Pork (char siew) This is even more filling than the prawn one because the portion is bigger and the yam paste is thicker too. It was tasty at first but since there were only the two of us sharing it, it did get quite boring later lol.
Kei Tak Sek Shaved Ice Desserts @ Kepong
Dec 14th
Went back to Kei Tak Sek (K.T.Z Food – Restaurant The Fruitti Stall) at Kepong a while ago to savour their famed lohs. Lohs, lol.
I had the Mango Loh, which is shaved ice surrounded with fresh mango chunks topped with mango puree and sago. Taste wise I think it had deteriorated a bit compared to last time. I suspect it had something to do with all the hiring of foreign workers to make the desserts. You may get sweet mango if you’re lucky. I wasn’t, so mine tasted a bit sour.
By the way, try not to look at the process of making the dessert. The sight of a foreign worker cupping the shaved ice with his bare hands (don’t know clean or not also, and not wearing any gloves too) does not augur well to your eating experience later, lol.
