California Kitchen Pizza @ Farenheit 88 (MyDEAL e-Voucher) + RM15 Cash Voucher Give-away

It has been almost years since I first dined at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK). But my memory of the restaurant still remains vivid and I could still remember the hearth-open-flame oven they use to bake the delicious pizzas. CPK has always been noted for their unconventional pizzas and are always innovating to incorporate new dishes into their menu.

Recently, MyDEAL launched a new deal for CPK that entitles the buyers to enjoy a 10″ pizza (available in 6 different flavours) plus a RM15 cash voucher that can be utilized in the next visit. The total value for this deal is actually RM45.24 but you will get to enjoy it for only RM15, which translates to about 67% discount in total.
When I knew about the deal, I jumped on and bought two e-Vouchers because the terms and conditions state that two vouchers can be redeemed at the same time per table. After I received the e-Vouchers from MyDEAL via email, all I had to do next was to make a reservation at CPK Farenheit 88. And lets not forget to print the voucher and bring it along to the restaurant for verification too.

The 6 different flavours of pizza you could choose are Original BBQ Chicken, Hawaiian, Pepperoni, Shrimp Scampi and Traditional Cheese. All of them are new to me so I asked for the staff’s opinion. He didn’t hesitate even for a second and recommended us to go for the BBQ Chicken and Hawaiian pizzas, which we did. Being fans of thin crust pizzas, we also opted to have our pan pizzas to be served on thin crust for an additional RM3 each.

Typica Cafe 豆原 @ Shaw Parade

**Note: Since I am getting quite a number of comments regarding the Ice Drip Coffee’s name.. this was how it was written that day. Was it a ‘K’ or ‘R’ for ‘Rwanda’, and was it ‘Musasa’ or ‘Murasa’? You be the judge. But thanks to some commentators now I know there’s such a coffee called ‘Rwanda Musasa

I am probably going to offend a lot of Typica Cafe fans out there with this post. Actually, I had two options. I could either parrot what the others are saying and pretend to adore this cafe and everyone will be happy, or I could just tell my feeling it as it is. Well, I have decided to be honest and go for the second option.
First thing first, you need to know the coffees here are not cheap because of the rare siphon-brewing method – at least in KL. The cafe’s owner also makes frequent trips overseas to source different types of coffee beans that are not commonly available in Malaysia. She even roasts them personally so it is truly a commendable passion.

For serious coffee connoisseurs, they definitely unearthed a hidden gem. But for casual coffee lovers like me, I think my level is far from being able to appreciate these gourmet coffees appropriately. So when I read some people’s experience saying that they are able to appreciate the greatness of Typica’s coffee after just one visit, it feels funny to me because most of them admitted they don’t even drink coffee on a regular basis.
I had the Kwanda Murasa @ RM28, basically an Ice Drip Coffee. I was told it is brewed using a seasonal coffee bean imported from Laos that has a chocolatey taste. It must have involved some really rare coffee bean produced by some secret coffee farmers because there is absolutely nothing I could find about “Kwanda Murasa” on Google. And yeah, it comes in a big mug filled with ice cubes, very cool I know.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to to undermine the idea of Ice Drip coffee and the tedious hand-making process involved. In fact, I really tried to appreciate the ‘subtleness’, ‘smoothness’, ‘full-body-ness’, ‘lingering coffee taste’ and ‘intense flavor minus the sourness and bitterness’ everyone has been raving about – sip by sip – but I just don’t feel it? Sorry to say this it is just an overpriced Kopi O to me.

Fatboy’s Burger Bar @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas

Even though Publika is not yet fully occupied, there are quite a number of restaurants to eat at. Most of the busy ones are those which already established themselves in the F&B business and have their very own following of customers. Think Marmalade Cafe, Plan B, Wondermilk, Rakuzen, Chawan, Ichiban Boshi etc.
Among them I consider Fatboy’s Burger Bar to be one of the more interesting ones, because the rest can be pretty much found at other parts of KL especially Bangsar. If you are wondering, Fatboy’s Burger Bar is a Singaporean brand and this outlet at Publika is their very first in Malaysia.

Fat-Basterd

If nothing in the menu suits you, you can opt to build your own burger here. It is quite similar to the Subway’s ordering process where you pick the types of bun, patty and other condiments. Not for me though, as I went for their signature burger with a less than appropriate name – Fat Basterd @ RM28.

Putu Piring @ Jalan Tengkera, Melaka

Forget about the gourmet restaurants. Sometimes all it takes is a simple yet delicious snack such as Putu Piring to make your day. This humble rice cake is the one of the three ‘putus’ (the other two being putu mayam and putu buluh) that are easily available at your nearest pasar malam. It is especially popular during the Ramadhan season where they are selling like hot cakes literally at the Ramadhan bazaars.

If you happen to drop by Melaka and is already sick of the many touristy food that require lining up under the hot sun, this putu piring stall at Jalan Tengkera could provide a more pleasant experience. The middle-aged couple just manage to make them tastier. Equipped with only a steamer and a table, their stall’s setup is as simple as it gets. Not surprsing, since putu piring is a cheap and fast to make delicacy.
