Satay
Satay – tasty skewered barbecued meat
Sen Kee Duck Satay @ Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong
Jan 6th
Sen Kee Duck Satay was introduced to me by a forumer in Lowyat.net through the “Good Food in Kepong” thread. I thought it would be interesting to try duck satay because I rarely see it being sold except in pasar malam. Besides, I believe not all pasar malam’s [tag]satay[/tag] stalls prepare the skewers using duck meat, hence making it kind of unique. So far I have tried with chicken, rabbit, pork, mutton, deer and ostrich satay but not the ones made using duck meat. So you could say I was pretty excited and looked forward with great anticipation to try it.
Luckily the direction to the stall was very straightforward so it was no sweat looking for [tag]Sen Kee[/tag]. Upon reaching we were kinda surprised to see there was only one table available.
Well after looking around only we realized that most customers would dine in the seafood restaurant and order the satay as something extra. I checked the stall and found chicken and mutton satay were available as well. So, the first batch of satay we ordered had five sticks of duck, chicken and mutton satays.
Ok, it’s obvious chicken satay is the one on the left but I am not sure which is the [tag]duck[/tag] and mutton already because their color looked so similar. Even the lady who prepared our satay had to ponder for a while before pointing out which is which, lol.
Funnily enough, my main reason here was to try the duck satay but I ended up eating the chicken satay first, lol. Anyway, Sen Kee’s chicken satay tasted good with no chicken fat / skin on the skewer as you can see from the photo. I don’t know about you but I actually don’t mind having some fat or skin on my satay because they can absorb more flavor and make the satay taste juicier. About [tag]duck satay[/tag], it was quite the awesome with tender meat which was bursting with flavor.
Haji Samuri Kajang Satay
Apr 6th
This was my dinner tonight – Haji Samuri‘s famous Kajang Satay. It’s surprisingly fast and cheap to reach Kajang town from Seri Kembangan, only 20 minutes and RM1 toll. The real problem starts when you’re in Kajang town itself. It’s a small town but there’s a lot of cars. So, getting around would take quite a while even for a short distance. Nyok Lan Kajang Satay @ Restoran Malaysia
Mar 2nd
I have been busy over the last weekend to prepare myself for my new job in Cyberjaya starting later this month. So, I went down to KL/Kajang/Kepong/Serdang/Damansara to look for a place to stay as well as shop for furniture at IKEA. Of course, I also visited some of my favorite eating places and share it with you guys. First stop is Kajang, where I went for its famous Satay Kajang.
Satay Kajang
Feb 23rd
No, I didn’t go to [tag]Kajang[/tag]
The [tag]Satay Kajang[/tag] I had was in [tag]Bayan Lepas[/tag]. What differentiates [tag]Satay[/tag] Kajang from normal satay is the amount of meat, and the peanut sauce. Please pardon the photos’ quality, all taken using my camera phone.
Many would think that they are a bunch of copycats who borrowed the name of the infamous Sate Kajang [tag]Haji Samuri[/tag]. But they really got their satay and peanut sauce from Haji Samuri. For those of you who don’t know, Haji Samuri is claimed as the best when it comes to Satay Kajang. I have tried it once before when I was working in Cyberjaya and I have to agree that it’s very good.
Satay Kajang’s peanut sauce is grey-whitish and the chilli sauce is added as much as you like. It is sweet and has lots of peanuts. So nice, I can eat it on its own..
Here, they only serve 3 types of Satay: ayam, daging and perut. Satay perut is the most left in the photo.. I think it should be beef. The texture is like chicken skin, soft and tender but not fulling. Back in Kajang, there are more choices like fish, deer and rabbit. They also give lots of ketupat.
So my conclusion is, if you are dying for some Satay Kajang and couldn’t travel there anytime soon.. you can get your fix here lol. It won’t taste as good as the real Haji Samuri but for me, it was at least 90% as nice. The stall is easy to find, it is a corner house just opposite PSDC along the houses. Each stick costs RM0.80, which is double the price back in Kajang lol.
