Damansara Village Steamboat Restaurant @ Kg. Sg. Kayu Ara, PJ

Damansara Village is another one of the many Pulau Ketam style steamboat restaurants in Klang Valley. For some, it is worth trying simply because of the star attraction – the famous actor and radio personality Patrick Teoh is the owner of this steamboat restaurant. But to me, it really doesn’t matter who the owner is because the main focus should be the food and pricing.
I am going to compare Damansara Village with Happy City at Kepong, which I think is still the steamboat restaurant to beat thus far in terms of taste and value. We had a standard steamboat set for two, with a choice of chicken meat or crabs. We chose the latter because it felt like the better deal.
The crabs were really small (almost pathetic) and had little meat, fresh nonetheless.
Fish Village Steamboat Restaurant @ Pusat Bandar Puchong

A close friend brought me to his favorite restaurant for crabs in Puchong called Fish Village. It is actually a steamboat restaurant but they also serve various seafood dishes that are largely crab related. From what I see their steamboat sets are not too bad because pure seafood is given and the various add-ons like fish dumplings and live crabs are reasonably priced too.
La La Mee Hoon @ RM21 – Personally, I really like this. The noodles is nicely done to a springy texture and fully absorbed the sweet flavors of the clams. They do not stinge on the la la’s portion too, as you can see they are literally scattered all over the noodles. So, you are sure to taste them in each mouthful.
Restoran LYJ (李雄记酒家) @ Kampung Baru, Sungai Buloh

With its fair share of celebrities customers local and oversea alike, Restoran LYJ can be considered as the most successful restaurant in Sungai Buloh. The head chef of LYJ has numerous culinary awards under his belt and he is proud to showcase them by plastering them all over the restaurant.
Pun Choy, a traditional village dish originating from Hong Kong can be found here too. But this post is not about the somewhat overrated and expensive Pun Choy. Instead, lets take a look at the other dishes they have that are more appealing especially in terms of price.
Standing Roast Chicken (Dong Duk Gai) @ RM38. This chicken is meant for you to rip it into pieces using your hands like a barbarian then eat it without using any utensils. Good thing is they provide plastic gloves so your hands would still be clean and oil free later.
But for those who still insist on being polite and eat it using chopsticks or fork and spoon, you are really missing a lot of fun and satisfaction here. As for the chicken, don’t expect too much because it is nothing spectacular and tastes quite dry actually. The main selling point is just because it comes standing, that’s all.
Janwa Thai Restaurant @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

Janwa Thai, a no-frills Thai restaurant at Bandar Menjalara that is a popular with the locals. It is run by a Thai family so you could only expect honest and reasonably priced food here. This could be considered our ‘safe’ restaurant whenever we are out of dining ideas, especially on weekends.
Special Seafood Tomyam @ RM28. It is prepared really hot and sour here, definitely not for those who have a weak tolerance. Because of that we usually do not order this when eating in a small group.
The slightly spicy Thai Fish Cakes (RM2.50/pc) are made using only fresh fish fillets (seasoned with red curry paste, hence the color) are a must try here. They have a compact yet springy texture and smells aromatic with the addition of minced lemongrass. Simply delightful to the palate.
