White Coffee
Queensbay Old Town Kopitiam
Jan 13th
OldTown Kopitiam at Queensbay has more food and drinks available for order compared to the other branches.
One of them is Twin White Shake, a much thicker version of the usual iced [tag]white coffee[/tag]. Priced at RM3.80, it is only available cold and its serving size is very small. It was a nice try, but next time I will stick to the usual iced white coffee lol.
Another item is Nasi Rendang Chicken (RM7.80) It sure looked yummy but does not taste as good as Nasi Lemak Special and Curry Chicken Rice. Just my opinion-lah.. the sambal was excellent though
We had to try this, Double Butter Toast (RM2.00) It’s on the chef’s recommendation list and every table ordered one. So we figured that it should be good. It tasted good alright, the toast was really crunchy. But the butter wasn’t oozing out from the toast as depicted in the menu
Curry Mee (RM5.80) was ok, the gravy was not thick enough. Penang hawkers’ curry mee is still the best.
Lastly, Old Town White Coffee that I can never get enough of lol.
Ipoh Nam Heong Old Town White Coffee
Jan 4th
On the way to Penang from KL, we stopped by in Ipoh Town for some white coffee. This time we were smart, we went earlier and arrived at around 5pm. Finally we managed to sample one of the most famous White Coffee in Malaysia~
Nam Heong White Coffee is actually not that hard to find if you are willing to ask the locals. It’s only around 30 min away from the Ipoh Selatan exit along the North-South Highway. It rained quite heavily not long after we parked our car. A good thing I suppose, the cool weather served better for a cup of hot white coffee lol.
The coffee shop sells quite a lot of hawker food. There are Penang prawn mee, dim sum, curry laksa and some other stuff. We only managed to order 2 baskets of dim sum, Har mai and Har kao because the rest were sold out.
Each basket of dim sum costs RM2.40. They tasted quite good and were still very fresh.
A cup of hot white coffee costs RM1.10. Very aromatic and tasty compared to other normal coffees. I have had people telling me that [tag]Old Town[/tag] white coffee is nothing special, tastes just like normal coffee.. Well I can say that those claims are very inaccurate
Iced white coffee costs a little more at RM1.30. I felt the iced version tasted sweeter.
When we left at 5.30pm, they were already preparing to close. So it is advised to reach here before 5pm to avoid any disappointment ![]()
Old Town Kopitiam @ E-Gate
Dec 24th
Last Saturday I was in QB until it closed. On the way back to my car, I walked passed OldTown Kopitiam and saw the staff enjoying their supper – Nasi Lemak Rendang. Based on their eating speed (lol) and the satisfaction they had on their face, no doubt the nasi lemak should be very good.
So the next day we went to the Old Town in E-Gate for dinner. Yeah I admit I always fall into temptations lol.
This is only my second time patronizing Old Town. The first time I went was almost 6 months ago back in Petaling Street. I had their Nissin Noodles and disliked it, bleh. So it was kinda on my blacklist for that whole period haha. By the way, business is very good as seen. It was the only restaurant in E-Gate which was full that day.
Unfortunately for me, the Nasi Lemak Rendang I wanted to try was not available. Man talk about luck, I purposely came for that leh lol.
Well this is no surprise, [tag]White Coffee[/tag] @ RM2.00 is a must-order. And I have to agree with megan that Chang Jiang White Coffee tastes better, it is thicker and more aromatic.
Iced White Coffee costs a little more @ RM2.30.
Siang Leng ordered Old Town [tag]Nasi Lemak[/tag] @ RM5.80. The ingredients are like what you will find in a normal pack of nasi lemak plus a piece of chicken. The most important element in nasi lemak – sambal, is really good! Recommended.
And this is what I had. Since I cannot get any rendang.. curry chicken is the next best thing. Old Town [tag]Curry Chicken[/tag] Rice @ RM6.80 consists of a plate of plain rice with some crackers and a curry chicken.
I love the curry! It is cooked just the way I like it with a lot of thick gravy to go with the rice. This has to be the nicer curry chicken I have had in [tag]Penang[/tag] recently.
One thing that caught my attention was Ice Fire [tag]Polo Bun[/tag] which is a chef recommendation at Old Town. Polo bun is a term for [tag]pineapple bun[/tag] for Hong Kong folks. The bun is actually quite crisp especially on the outer most layer where the pineapple is at. When held tightly, the butter melts from the heat between the bun.. Really nice and it costs only RM2.20 per piece! So ah, my advice is not to order any noodles because they really don’t taste that good. Go for the rice or toasts/buns, that’s what Old Town is really good at ![]()
Chatter Kopitiam
Nov 13th
So I was on a mission to [tag]Ipoh[/tag] for [tag]white coffee[/tag] last weekend, thanks to [tag]8TV[/tag]‘s [tag]HoChak[/tag]. Few weeks ago, the last segment of the programme introduced Ipoh white coffee. The moment I finished watching it, I said to myself, “Dang I must get some of those!”
And whaddya know, according to a camera-selling-uncle I met in Kinta City’s Jaya Jusco, the kopitiams in Old Town close after 6pm! So my mission was a failure. But I was determined, I shall not return without white coffee in my stomach!
And that’s how I ended up in Chatter Kopitiam.
Chatter
Ahhh.. what I’ve been waiting for the whole day. Hot [tag]Chang Jiang White Coffee[/tag] @ RM1.80. It certainly looked like a cup of normal Nescafe/Kopi Susu anyone can make, anytime at anywhere. Luckily that’s not the case for its taste. White Coffee is certainly more fragrant, and tastes more ‘kao’ than normal coffee. BTW, I thought white coffee should have a layer of whitish bubble on top, like cappuccino?
This is the iced Chang Jiang White Coffee, priced @ RM1.90. I like it because it didn’t lose its thickness with the added ice. Anyway if anyone knows where to get the best white coffee in Ipoh, do provide the information and help a poor soul lol. Thanks first!
