Anjappar Authentic Chettinad Restaurant @ Bangsar
Mar 28th
A sudden craving for Biryani (Biriyani, Briyani or Beriani, however you spell it) brought me to Anjappar at Bangsar, a restaurant originating from Chennai that specializes in Chettinad cuisine. Chettinad cuisine is known for heavy use of spices, making it one of the most aromatic in India. And apparently, Anjappar also serves the best Mutton Biryani around according to my Indian colleagues. Well, they should know best.
Unlike our local version of Nasi Briyani that comes in individual claypots, the Biryani here is served traditionally in small steel pots. Cooling red onion Raita (Indian yogury salad) and spicy chicken curry gravy are the usual accompaniments.
Banquet – Most Overrated Restaurant @ Bangsar Village 2?
Nov 22nd
If you ask me if there’s any overrated restaurant at Bangsar, I will tell you it’s Banquet without even have to think. I understand that Banquet is one of the most popular restaurant at Bangsar Village 2, thanks to the many visits from different bloggers who have given it good reviews especially on their Lamb Shank and Oven Baked Butter Fish. Do a Google search and be amazed by the number of blog links on Banquet.
Unfortunately it is now in my list of banned restaurant to visit because the food is below average and the expensive price is totally unjustified. With so many good reviews and being a sister restaurant of the extremely popular upscale restaurant CafeCafe, it sure holds a very high promise for first timer diners like me prior to dining there.
To be fair I did notice the good reviews were posted about 2-3 years ago, and many things can happen between this time. I can only feel unlucky for having to try Banquet during its worst. Let this be a reminder to anyone reading this as well, take note of the review’s date because if the standard is not being maintained, you’re going to have a very very different experience.
Braised Lamb Shank @ RM35 had tender meat but the sauce was a complete failure. It felt like instant pasta sauce was used then mixed with some tomato sauce. This is going down in my book as the worst Lamb Shank ever. Click here to continue reading >
Auntie Christina Sarawak Laksa @ Kedai Makanan Nam Chun, Bangsar
Sep 28th
This time I went to Bangsar for Auntie Christina Sarawak Laksa, which many claim is be the best Sarawak Laksa in Klang Valley. Kolo Mee aside, Sarawak Laksa is another hawker food from Sarawak that I fancy a lot.
The most memorable Sarawak Laksa I ever had was at Choong Choon Cafe 2 years ago during my trip to Kuching. It tastes somewhat similar to curry mee with a sour twist and having a totally different garnishing.
I don’t know if other types of noodles is used but a bowl of Sarawak Laksa typically comes with bean sprouts and a special type of vermicelli, which is a bit thicker than the ones we usually have. It is then garnished with omelette strips, prawns and coriander leaves. A bowl cost RM5.00. Click here to continue reading >
Halal Seafood and Crab @ Bangsar Seafood Garden Restaurant, One Bangsar
Jul 31st
Thanks to KampungBoyCityGal, I got to tag along for an invited dinner at Bangsar Seafood Garden Restaurant. It is a HALAL classy seafood restaurant that have catered for numerous company events, family functions and banquets. Residents staying within the vicinity of Bangsar should know this place well, it’s located in One Bangsar just opposite TMC.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Ivy for the first time. After a brief introduction to Bangsar Seafood Garden, food was served immediately. A menu was designed specially for the eight of us, which consisted of none other than, plenty of seafood. For your information the dishes’ portions were prepared according to the number of attending guests.
Loh Han Vegetables (Luo Han Zhai) @ RM40, a vegetarian dish cooked with mainly mushroom and dried beancurd in soy sauce then served in a circle of broccoli.
I have mentioned before that I would love to try Cod Fish in a different way other than always having it steamed. I got to try it that day and I loved it, perhaps even more than the steamed version. Click here to continue reading >
