Happy City Steamboat Restaurant (Live Seafood) @ Kepong
Oct 1st
When it comes to steamboat I bet most of you think of going for the buffet type first. Although it’s cheaper and you get to eat all you can, the ingredients are often those of cheap and of substandard freshness. Most of the time I leave the restaurant unsatisfied.
Alternatively, by spending 20-30% more you could have a nice steamboat meal at Happy City Steamboat Restaurant just a street away from Carrefour Kepong. As far as steamboat goes this is surprisingly good and the seafood set actually comes with LIVE seafood!
By the way do you notice Kepong and Menjalara area are filled with steamboat restaurants at every corner? There must be an explanation to this..
A few seafood sets are available, broken down according to the number of pax. For a 2-3 pax set, it cost RM79.90 and it comes with tiger prawns, various seafood like scallop, mussels and etc (one of each only), and a choice of flower crabs or a whole fish (choice of Red Snapper or White Pomfret).
T.G.I. Friday’s Grand Opening @ Menara Hap Seng, KL
Sep 29th
Guys, do you know where is TGI Friday’s (Thank Goodness It’s Friday’s) latest outlet? Well it is located at Menara Hap Seng in Jalan P. Ramlee. This latest outlet that opened just two days ago (27 Sep) is special because among the more than 1,000 restaurants in 60 countries globally, it has an on-trend vintage look, the first in the world to be given a design uplift from the traditional American restaurant look.
I was one of the lucky people to be invited to be part of the media for the grand opening event as well as experiencing the new design concept meant for Malaysians. It was quite a happening night with food, free flow of beer and live entertainment that kept the party going.
The launch by Datuk Azlan Hashim with Mr. Andrew Reddy.
Then guests and the media were ushered into the restaurant. As soon as you enter the restaurant you’d see a full size sculputre of Marilyn Monroe with her signature pose. Definitely something you wouldn’t see in TGI Friday’s other outlets.
Tangkak Beef Noodles Restaurant @ Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur
Sep 20th
I love beef noodles, I really do. So when a friend highly recommends his favorite beef noodle to me, I just had to try it. Restoran Tangkak Beef Noodles should be familiar to Johoreans reading this, as this restaurant at Jalan Imbi is indeed a branch of the famous Kuang Fei at Tangkak.
As much as I want to drive all the way to Tangkak to have a taste of the original, I will have to settle for the nearest available to me first lol. By the way it’s worth mentioning that the food served here is Halal certified so anyone can eat here.
The variety is good considering the many different combinations of meat, tripe, tendon and shin you could have for your bowl of noodles. Besides the selection of meat, types of noodles like koay teow, mihun and even ramen (extra RM1) can be ordered. But we simply stuck to having koay teow, which I feel should be the best choice for its silky smooth texture.
Beef + Tendon Koay Teow @ RM8.90.
Dim Sum @ Sin Choi Wah Restaurant, Bandar Menjalara Kepong
Sep 6th
Sin Choi Wah restaurant is the latest dim sum restaurant to open in Kepong at Bandar Menjalara. It is actually a branch of Choi Wah at Jinjang but much larger considering that it occupies a whole 3-storey building all to itself. But do note that Sin Choi Wah is more of a restaurant serving Chinese dishes. Equipped with huge halls and ballrooms, they mainly cater to weddings and private functions and dim sum was only available later.
WIthin the first few weeks of opening, a close friend of mine had visited the restaurant a few times and gave good ratings. So I thought their dim sum should be as good as well.
Although there are about 40+ items to order, they look all too familiar, which are pretty much the same dim sum you would see in a typical dim sum restaurant. Depending on the ingredients, each basket has a price between RM4.80 to RM7. Starting with the highly recommended items: Har Gao @ RM5 was delicious owing to the extremely fresh, sweet and crunchy prawns.
I like the Siew Mai (steamed prawn dumpling, RM5) because each dumpling contains three large prawns with little minced meat. You could really taste the sweet flavor of the prawns without any strong porky taste.
