Excellent Thai Food @ May Tip Restaurant

The last post about [tag]Thai food[/tag] in Siam Express was bad, so I am going to talk about a good one. May Tip Restaurant in Taman Mutiara, [tag]Bukit Mertajam[/tag] 大山脚 serves excellent Thai food. The last time I dined here was 3 months ago on my brother’s birthday. We treated him for lunch.

Seafood tomyam is the must-order-dish, else you won’t feel like eating Thai food ;) Quite many fresh prawns were used so the soup tasted really nice.

A plate of really kick-ass Pineapple Fried Rice (this is what I call a real Pineapple Fried Rice, shame on you Siam Express..) Look at the chunks of pineapples and amount of cashewnuts  Also used as topping is pork floss that gave a hint of sweet, saltish taste.

Can you guess what is this dish? It’s otak-otak, Thai style. Local otak-otak is steamed with banana leaves but this was steamed in wrapped aluminium foil. They taste quite similar, but this had chunkier fish meat and prawns. It looked like a blooming flower lol, nice la..

When the Thai Omelette arrived, I didn’t expect it to look like this. However it still tasted great, especially with the special chilli sauce. The green stuff you see in the omelette are actually kangkung. After being deep fried they became very crunchy, felt like eating keropok.

Next to come was Asam Prawns. Man, those are some really big prawns.. The downside of this dish is the price, it costed RM20++ if I remembered correctly.

Lastly, Thai fried bean sprouts. If you look hard, you will notice that all bean sprouts’ roots have been removed. May Tip really deserves my praise for such courtesy. Our meal costed RM98++ inclusive of 5 drinks, all iced lemon tea. It is a bit expensive but you get what you paid for, good food. I rather spend a bit more on good food, than wasting a cent on lousy food with bad service. Do you agree? ;)

Bon appetite!

Tea Spa Hutan Rimba (Revisit)

Tea Spa Hutan Rimba is a small tea house in [tag]Hutan Lipur Bukit Mertajam[/tag], or more commonly known as [tag]Cherok Tokun[/tag]. I mentioned this tea house not long ago in a short post introducing Cherok Tokun.

This is a nice place to spend your Sunday mornings with your family and friends. It is surrounded in lush forest, quiet and cooling. Perfect spot for a game of chess and cards. As the name implies, Tea Spa Hutan Rimba provides a wide selection of tea to choose from. But since I am not really into tea.. I just came here for breakfast before jungle trekking. Each [tag]herbal tea egg[/tag] costs RM1.00, the eggs are very fragrant after being boiled with herbs and tea leaves. From far, it smelled almost like Bak Kut Teh :P

If eggs are not enough, try the Teow Chew [tag]Fried Mee[/tag] @ RM1.00. Other food available include sweet potato, kolo mee, peanut/coconut buns, peanuts and melon seeds. None of the food is intended for full meals, more like tidbits while enjoying your yam char session ;)

Chicken Rice @ Chicken Valley

Chicken Valley Restaurant is a fast food outlet located in Taman Mutiara, Bukit Mertajam 大山脚. I am sure most BM kia will know this place because it has been there for almost 10 years. Chicken Valley’s business when it just started was quite good actually but has declined a lot over time. As a result, the second floor has been closed indefinitely. I think the reason being the opening of Pizza Hut, KFC and McDonald in areas nearby. We didn’t have such fast food chains last time, to enjoy McD we had to go to Penang island :(

Anyway, I had their chicken rice set meal @ RM4.95 for dinner just now. This set meal consists of a plate of chicken rice (quarter BBQ honey chicken), soft drink and soup. The price is reasonable and the food good too. Chicken Valley also makes good chicken burgers that can fight with McD ones leh ;)
